Everything You Need to Know about DEWA EV Green Chargers in Dubai
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) initiated the EV charging stations infrastructure in the UAE. In 2015, around 100 green chargers were installed across Dubai. More than 325 DEWA EV green chargers are currently developed across the shopping malls, hospitals, and residential and commercial areas in Dubai.
Moreover, all DEWA customers as well as non-customers can benefit from these green charging stations in Dubai. Let’s find out more details about these DEWA EV Green Chargers and how users can benefit from them.
EV GREEN CHARGERS BY DEWA
The use of green vehicles, electric and hybrid mostly, has increased significantly. According to DEWA, registered green vehicles rose from 435 in 2015 to 13,000 in 2021. Considering the rise of electric and hybrid cars, DEWA took the initiative to develop a charging station infrastructure in Dubai. There are more than 300 charging stations in Dubai with over 535 charging points.
Here are all the details about DEWA EV Green Chargers Initiative that is making Dubai a smarter and environmentally-friendly Emirate.
DEWA EV COMMUNITY HUB
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the Emirate’s sole official charging station service provider. Therefore, DEWA has established an EV community hub that lets users know about the major updates, such as any new charging station or point location. Besides, it provides tips for new EV owners and helps them with registration processes within Dubai.
Moreover, DEWA runs an awareness campaign for electric car owners regarding any initiative announced by the authorities such as Dubai Municipality and Road and Transport Authority (RTA). For instance, green loans and insurance plans for electric cars. DEWA also sets and announces its targets on the DEWA EV Community Hub according to the Government strategies such as Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2030.
EV CHARGING
The EV charging facilitates the DEWA registered owners and guest users to charge their electric cars. To use the DEWA EV Green Chargers, electric car owners must be aware of the types of chargers and green charger cards.
CHARGER CARD AND ACCOUNT
Electric car owners can register their DEWA EV Green Charger card through the DEWA website. EV owners can simply enter their DEWA ID and vehicle details if they are registered DEWA users. Meanwhile, the non-registered DEWA customers can also avail of the card via their Emirates ID.
The main benefit of the Green Charger card is that the users can scan it at the DEWA charging point, and they will be billed only AED 29 fils per kWh. Therefore, if you own an electric car, register your Green Charger card to save cost on your EV charging.
TYPES OF DEWA EV CHARGERS
The following types of DEWA EV Green Chargers are available at different locations in Dubai:
- Public Charger (22 kW AC charger)
- Wall-box Charger (22 kW AC Charger)
- Fast Charger (43 kW AC Charger or 50 kW DC Charger)
- Ultra-fast Charger (150 kW DC Charger)
The charging time and rates depend on the type of charging point used by the EV owner and the electric car manufacturer and battery specifications. The rate for different types of DEWA EV Green Chargers varies for the guest users depending on the type of charger. For instance, a public or wall-box charger costs AED 3.35 whereas AC and DC Fast Chargers cost AED 6.55 and AED 7.61 for 30 minutes, respectively. Meanwhile, the users have to pay AED 22.84 for 30 minutes of charging at the ultra-fast charging point.
