All about Different Types of DEWA EV Green Chargers
As part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2030, DEWA has established over 300 charging stations. Launching its first electric car charging station in 2015, DEWA has created a widespread charging station network in Dubai. That said, the electricity supplier facilitates electric car owners with different types of DEWA EV chargers ranging from the wall-charger to ultra-fast chargers.
Here is a complete guide on how to use different DEWA EV chargers types, charging rate, and fees.
TYPES OF DEWA EV CHARGING STATIONS
DEWA is committed to making Dubai the smartest city in the world by taking initiatives to reduce the use of non-renewable energy. That said, there are four types of DEWA EV chargers installed around shopping malls, airports, petrol stations, shopping malls, clinics, hospitals, commercial offices, and residential complexes in Dubai.
All types of chargers come with three basic indicators:
- A green light indicates that the charger is ready to use.
- A blue light represents that your EV is charging.
- The red or yellow light indicates a problem in the EV charger.
In case of an emergency, DEWA advises the EV owners to call their emergency number (991) to avoid any mishap.
Let’s go through the types of DEWA EV Green Chargers.
DEWA WALL-BOX/PUBLIC EV CHARGER
These types of DEWA EV chargers are 22 kW alternating current (AC) chargers. Wall-charger comes with a single type-2 socket whereas the public charger has two type-2 sockets. Registered EV owners can scan their DEWA EV Green Charger card while guest users can scan a QR code via DEWA mobile app.
To charge your EV with a wall-box charger, you must have your charging cable. Since it’s an AC charger, it will use the onboard charger. DEWA wall-box charger can charge your EV in two to four hours depending on the electric car battery.
This type of DEWA EV green charger costs AED 3.35 when you charge your car for thirty minutes. Meanwhile, charging will cost AED 29 fils per kWh if you own a DEWA Green Charger card.
DEWA FAST CHARGER
EV owners can mostly find this type of DEWA EV green charger at petrol stations. There are two categories of Fast EV Green Chargers; One is a 43 kilowatts AC type-2 socket while the other comes with a 50 kW DC ChadeMO and Combo CCS Sockets for fast charging.
DEWA Fast Green Charger can charge your EV up to 80% in 20 to 40 minutes depending on your electric car make and its battery specifications. Moreover, both types of Fast DEWA EV Green Chargers have different charging fees for guest users. That said, 43 kW AC chargers cost AED 6.55 per thirty minutes whereas 50 kW DC chargers cost AED 7.61 for 30 minutes. However, the registered commercial and non-commercial EV owners are charged AED 29 fils per kWh.
DEWA ULTRA-FAST CHARGER
The ultra-fast type of DEWA EV Green Chargers have a 150 kilowatts DC type-2 socket. Moreover, this EV charger comes with the same ChadeMO and Combo CSS sockets as the DC fast charger. Registered DEWA users can simply scan their card or QR code from the mobile app to start ultra-fast charging.
Meanwhile, the guest mode users need to scan the QR code from their phone camera and pay AED 22.84 for 30 minutes of charging at ultra-fast chargers.
It is worth noting that registered or non-registered DEWA consumers need to follow some basic steps to avail of EV charging facilities. These types of DEWA charging stations across Dubai facilitate and encourage the use of greener energy.
These sustainable developments make it convenient for EV owners or the ones planning to buy an electric car from new or used cars in Dubai. Besides, ensure that you follow the tips when buying a pre-owned electric vehicle.
