Charge Your Electric Car at Home
Like any other home appliance, you can easily charge your vehicle at home. The EV chargers can be installed behind the meter; however, the bill of used electricity will be added to your monthly DEWA bill at a normal residential electricity rate.
Dewa Green Chargers – EV Green Charger Initiative
DEWA launched the EV Green Charger Initiative to make Dubai one of the smartest and greenest cities in the world. The project, announced in 2015, aimed to install electric vehicle charging stations for the public across Dubai. The purpose of setting up these EV charging stations is to encourage the public to switch over from traditional vehicles to electric cars. It is also considered a major step in achieving the strategic target of reducing carbon emissions in Dubai. Some of the popular electric cars in the UAE include:
- Tesla Model S: The starting price of the new Tesla Model S is AED 346,180. You can also buy a range of used Tesla Model S at affordable rates.

EV Green Charger Card Services
EV Green Charger Card Service is introduced by DEWA to pay the monthly charging bills in Dubai. You can easily request the service card by registering on the DEWA website.
Registration
DEWA allows you to request a new card, replace and deactivate the EV Charging card online. If you apply for a card online through DEWA’s website or smart app, then you will receive it within 3 working days. However, the Green Charger card will be issued immediately if you register via DEWA Happiness Centres.
Required Documents and Fee
It is important to note here that the EV Green Charger card will only be registered under the same name as in your Emirates ID, Mulkiya and driving license. A refundable security deposit of 500 AED is required to avail of the card.

Scan QR Code
Additionally, motorists can also conveniently charge their vehicle by scanning QR codes. The facility is announced by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and available at 300 charging stations across the emirate. The service enables EV Green Charger customers to charge their electric vehicles by scanning the QR code via DEWA Smart App. DEWA smart app is available for Apple, Android and Huawei AppGallery users.
Types of Electric Car Charging Stations in Dubai
Now you must be thinking about how to charge an electric car in Dubai? DEWA has introduced three types of electric car charging stations across the city as Public Charger, Fast Charger and Wall Box Charger.
- Public Charger: The type of chargers feature 2×22 kW AC, with double Type 2 Socket. Depending on the type and battery of the electric car, public chargers can fully charge your vehicle within 2 to 4 hours.
- Fast Charger: As the name suggests, Fast chargers can provide an 80 percent charge within 20 to 45 minutes. Again, the charging depends on the battery capacity and the type of vehicle. Fast chargers can mostly be found at Dubai petrol stations. The charger features 43 kW AC with Type 2 Socket, 50 kW DC ChadeMO and Combo CCS Sockets.
- Wall Box Charger: Wall Box is a 22 kW AC charger that comes with a single Type 2 Socket. The charger can recharge an EV battery within 2 to 4 hours, considering the battery capacity and the type of electric car.
How Many Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Are There Currently in Dubai?
So far, DEWA has successfully installed 300 electric charging stations across the emirate including airports, petrol pumps, shopping centres, offices, hospitals, residential complexes, and other public areas. The location of these stations is mapped and updated across a total of 14 digital platforms including the DEWA website and DEWA smart applications.

The Green Chargers placed on DEWA Customer Happiness Centres operate regularly from 07:30 am to 12:00 am. However, other electric cars charging stations functioning on petrol pumps and public locations are available 24/4.
