All You Need to Know about SEWA App
A utility (electricity, water and gas) connection is a basic necessity to acquire when shifting to a new house. SEWA – Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, is the entity responsible for utility distribution throughout Sharjah.
To save you the hassle of frequent visits to customer centres, the company has launched its mobile application; the SEWA app. It is a bilingual app (English and Arabic) that has several features to help resolve your basic concerns regarding utilities, bills, and consumption history.
As per the statistics uploaded on the SEWA website, the SEWA app installations reported from 2015 to 2017 for iOS users were 10,904 and for Android users were 60,821. This shows the shift of Sharjah residents towards the SEWA app for managing utility-related concerns.
Detailed below is how the SEWA app works and the complete list of features a SEWA customer can use.
How Does the SEWA App Work?
A customer can use the SEWA app (Android | iOS) by registering to the SEWA online account. Follow these steps to register with the SEWA e-services portal and mobile application.
- Update your contact and identity details on SEWA through these two methods.
- Send your account ID, Emirates ID, email address, mobile number, and a front and back scanned copy of your Emirates ID and trade license for commercial/industrial accounts via email to regsupport@sewa.gov.ae.
- Visit any SEWA Customer Care Centre with a valid Emirates ID.
- Visit www.sewa.gov.ae after getting a confirmation email and then click on ‘Register’.
- You can search your account details through your Emirates ID or passport number or trade license.
- Once you find your account details, fill out the form and complete the activation process through SMS and email.
- Now open your account on the SEWA app with your account credentials.
The home screen of the SEWA app provides quick links to the main services and features offered on the smart app.
Features of the SEWA App
SEWA smart app contributes to digitalising the services concerning utilities for Sharjah residents. It is a user-friendly application that is widely used by electricity and water consumers in the city.

1. Bill Inquiry
SEWA app users can view their bills by entering their account number in the search bar of the Bill Inquiry feature. It will then show your account number, current balance, current month paid amount, last receipt date and a detailed bill available for download.
2. Online Bill Payment
With the Pay Bills features, SEWA app users can pay bills online. However, this option is available only for registered users. Here you can select the account number whose bill you want to pay. Also, you can add multiple accounts here for bill payments. Online payment is acceptable via credit cards.
3. Bill History and Payment History
In the Bill History and Payment History views, a table and a graph are displayed to show the history of bills due and bills paid for the last 12 months.
4. Consumption Graph
The Consumption Graph feature shows a summary graph of the utility usage (electricity, water or gas).
5. Locate Payment Outlets
The Payment Outlets feature allows users to locate the nearest centre for bill payment concerning their GPS location. Users can navigate and search for routes using the map within the SEWA application.
6. Update My Profile
Users of the SEWA app can update their contact details (mobile number and email address) through the Edit Profile option available in the My Profile view. In the My Profile section, you can also view your Carbon Foot Print (CO2 releases) produced by your electricity consumption.
7. Fault Reporting Form
If you observe any signs of electricity problems they should be reported immediately. The Fault Reporting Form feature allows users to submit a fault report to SEWA concerning utility services. All you need to do is fill out the form with your contact details, fault location, and description and upload a picture showing the fault. Your form will be submitted to SEWA for further action.
