Palm Jumeirah, the iconic man-made archipelago in Dubai, is one of the world’s most recognisable and sought-after luxury destinations. Shaped like a palm tree, the island extends into the Arabian Gulf and continues to stand as a symbol of Dubai’s ambition and architectural innovation.
Today, Palm Jumeirah is a fully established residential and tourism hub, offering luxury villas, high-end apartments and world-class hospitality. Its waterfront lifestyle, paired with well-developed infrastructure and connectivity to the rest of the city, makes it one of the most desirable areas to live in Dubai.
Bird’s Eye View
Palm Jumeirah is divided into four key sections: the Trunk, Spine, Fronds and Crescent. The Trunk serves as the main access point to the island, connected via a bridge to the mainland. The Spine acts as the central axis, with 17 fronds extending outward, forming some of Dubai’s most exclusive residential addresses.
The Crescent surrounds the Palm and functions as a protective breakwater, designed to enhance the island’s stability while allowing seawater circulation.
Developed by Nakheel Properties, Palm Jumeirah has evolved from a major engineering project into one of Dubai’s most established luxury communities. The island’s construction began in 2001, with infrastructure in place by the mid-2000s and the first residents moving in around 2007.
Palm Jumeirah is also home to some of Dubai’s most renowned luxury resorts and attractions. Iconic destinations such as Atlantis, The Palm continue to be complemented by leading hotels including Anantara The Palm, FIVE Palm Jumeirah Hotel, Waldorf Astoria and Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.
Another key addition to the skyline is The Palm Tower, which integrates luxury residences with a five-star hotel and offers access to one of the world’s highest infinity pools. Moreover, here are some interesting facts about Palm Jumeirah.
