Moving into a new home is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. From packing your belongings to arranging the move and completing essential paperwork, there is plenty to manage. The best way to stay organised and avoid last-minute stress is to plan your move. Start by creating a home moving checklist that helps you prepare efficiently and makes the entire process smooth and manageable.
Essentials for Home Moving Checklist in the UAE
The essential steps to be included in the checklist for moving houses have been divided into two sections:
Things to Do Before the Move
Before you move out, take care of the essential tasks in your current home to ensure a hassle-free handover and avoid any last-minute surprises.
Declutter Items
Go through each room and separate items you no longer need. Sell, donate or recycle belongings that are in good condition. Declutter your home instead of packing everything. This reduces packing time, lowers moving costs and helps you start fresh in your new home.
Label the Items and Prepare Boxes
Pack your belongings room by room and use sturdy boxes to keep everything organised. Label each box with its contents and the destination room to make unpacking easier. Keep fragile items in clearly marked boxes and use protective materials to prevent damage during the move.
Opt for Home Moving Services
If you have a large household or a busy schedule, consider hiring professional packers and movers in the UAE to simplify the process. They can assist with packing, loading, transportation and unloading, helping you save time and reduce the risk of damage. Compare quotes, check customer reviews and choose a licensed and reliable moving company for a hassle-free experience.
Clear Dues and Request Deposit Return
Settle any outstanding utility bills, service charges or rent before handing over the property. Once all payments are cleared, request the return of your security deposit from the landlord or property management company. Keep payment receipts and the final inspection record to avoid disputes during the refund process. Every such step is important and should be added to the moving out checklist.
Transfer or Close Your Utility Connections
Before moving out, request your utility provider to transfer or disconnect your services. In Dubai, DEWA offers a convenient Move-To service that allows you to transfer your electricity and water connection to your new home. Residents in other emirates should contact their respective utility service providers to request the transfer or closure of their utility connections before vacating the property.
Things to Do After the Move
Before settling into your new home, complete a few essential tasks to make sure everything is ready for a safe, comfortable and hassle-free move-in. The relocation checklist in the UAE after the move includes:
Activate Utility Connection
Arrange for your electricity, water, gas and internet connections to be activated before or on your moving day. Consumers in Dubai who haven’t already transferred their utility connection, or who have just moved to the emirate, can open an account with DEWA. Moreover, in other emirates, individuals should contact their respective utility providers to activate the required services before moving in.
Deep Clean Your New Home
Clean every room before moving in, paying special attention to the kitchen, bathrooms, floors and storage spaces. Wipe down surfaces, disinfect high-touch areas and check for any maintenance issues. A thorough cleaning ensures your new home is fresh, hygienic and ready for your belongings.
Unpack the Items
Start by unpacking essential items such as toiletries, kitchen supplies and daily necessities. Then move on to one room at a time to stay organised and avoid clutter. Use the labels on your boxes to place items in the correct rooms, making the unpacking process quicker and more efficient.
Update New Address
Update the new address with the bank, employer, insurance provider, telecom company and any other important service providers. Those who frequently receive deliveries must also update their address in shopping apps. Moreover, change the home address on Google Maps for accurate navigation. Keeping the address information up to date is an important practice and make sure to include this in your moving in checklist.
Get to Know the New Neighbourhood
Take some time to explore the new neighbourhood and learn about nearby supermarkets, pharmacies, healthcare facilities, schools and public transport options. Prepare a list of questions to ask the new neighbours about waste collection schedules, parking rules, security, community facilities and local services. This will help you settle in quickly and better understand your new community.
