Nissan Safety Shield 360
Automobile brands prioritise safety over other features in the car. Prior to the inclusion of computers and AI in vehicles, the safety features introduced were focused on single elements like seat belts. However, AI and car computers enable brands to incorporate a set of features for 360° vehicle safety. One such set of features is recently introduced by Nissan under the name of Nissan Safety Shield 360. The Shield 360 contains multiple safety features that are essential for a safer drive.
Let’s dive a little deeper into the Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield 360, the features it has to offer and the impact it creates on safety.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 Features
Nissan – a popular Japanese car brand in the UAE is reputed for introducing technologically advanced features in its vehicles. Ranging from zero gravity seats to Nissan ProPilot, the brand has revolutionised modern vehicles over time. The Safety Shield 360 will be an addition to this revolution.
The Nissan Safety Shield 360 is a set of 6 different intelligent mobility features, responsible for monitoring vehicles from all directions to reduce accidents and collisions. For instance, sonar, radar and cameras are used by the Safety Shield to ensure maximum safety.
Now that you know what is Nissan Safety Shield 360 is, let’s move towards the features included in the shield.
Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
The automatic emergency braking system is a modern safety feature responsible for avoiding forward collisions. A radar mounted on the front of the car monitors the distance and speed of the leading vehicle. When the distance is shorter and a collision can happen, the system will issue audio and visual alerts for the driver to hit the brakes.
However, if the driver does not respond to the warning, the vehicle will automatically stop to avoid a collision. The automatic emergency systems included in the Nissan Safety Shield are also able to detect pedestrians along with cars to increase safety.
High Beam Assist
The high beam assist automatically switches the headlight from lower to higher and vice versa when required. It also assists in the early detection of vehicles and pedestrians even at night and reduces collision chances.
The system is dependent upon a camera mounted on the windshield which detects lights coming from the leading vehicle. The level sensing is used to measure the amount of light from the leading vehicle and headlights switch to a lower or higher beam accordingly.
The high beam assist is not automatic and needs to be turned on manually. To turn it on in Nissan, switch the headlight to the auto position, and push the lever forward, the beam assist will be turned on and an indicating message on the instrument cluster.
Lane Departure Warning
The next feature included in the Nissan Safety Shield 360 is the lane departure warning system. The lane departure warning system issues an alert when there is a risk of a vehicle leaving the lane unintentionally.
The warning system uses a camera and radar to monitor the left and right side road markings. In case, the vehicle is near the marking, a chime or indicator will be issued, in some cars, the steering wheel also vibrates as a warning. However, the lane departure warning only works when the yellow markings on the roads are clear and properly built.
Blind Spot Warning
The blind spot is the area that can not be seen with the help of side or rearview mirrors. The area is large enough to easily block a car, motorcycle and pedestrian. That said, Nissan’s blind spot warning system alerts drivers when a vehicle in the adjusting lane approaches the rear end of the car.
The blind spot warning system uses radar on the rear bumper to detect vehicles in the blind spot. If the driver turns on the indicator when a vehicle is present in the blind spot, the alert will chime continuously and a warning light will be illuminated on the side mirror to warn the driver.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
As evident from the name, the rear cross-traffic alert warns drivers while reversing and a car is approaching from the left or right side. The rear cross alert helps in reducing the chances of a collision while reversing the car, especially in parking spaces.
The car approaching from the side is detected with the help of radar placed on the rear bumper. To alert the driver, a chime and an indicator flash on the door mirror on the side from where the vehicle is approaching.
Rear Automatic Braking
The rear automatic braking system comes into the picture when the driver does not respond to the rear cross-traffic warning. The radar on the rear sensor is used to detect obstruction or any vehicle approaching the car while reversing. When the distance is too short and the chances of collision are high, the rear automatic braking stops the vehicle and avoids accidents.
These were all the safety features included in the Nissan Safety Shield 360. Remember that all the above-mentioned features are to assist drivers and can not replace the driver by any means.
