Let’s walk through the Infiniti QX60 history and its progress through the years.
Infiniti QX60 Generations
The history of Infiniti is rich and full of innovation. When it comes to the SUV segment, the case is no different. First launched in 2012, the Infiniti QX60 shared a platform with Nissan Pathfinder and shared many of its features. Before that, it was known as the Infiniti JX. However, the model received several modifications throughout the years. Let’s go through the history of the Infiniti QX60 and how it evolved into the current generation.
INFINITI QX60 FIRST GENERATION (2012-2021)
The first Infiniti QX60 generation rolled out in 2012. It proved to be a strong contender against the SUVs by other well-known automotive brands. The front and all-wheel drive system and high fuel efficiency made the QX60 a major success.
At the front, the SUV boasted a horizontal-slat chrome-plated car grille. The front headlights had a swept-back design with corner-mounted turn signals. The front appearance was further enhanced by a wrapped-around, curved bumper and front fenders. The QX60 came with twenty-inch chromed light-alloy wheels. Also, it had a wheelbase of 114.2 inches.
Due to the extended wheelbase, the QX60 offered ample interior space. The SUV came with three-seat rows and seating for seven. It featured a lower front dashboard with a rounded instrument cluster. Moreover, the centre stack was equipped with an infotainment system with specific controls. However, it didn’t have a touch-sensitive screen.
The car came standard with a front or an AWD drivetrain system and a CVT transmission. The petrol and hybrid engines offered for the first Infiniti QX60 generation included:
Petrol engine: A 3.5-litre V6 engine that produced 268 horsepower.
Hybrid engines:
- A 2.5-litre L4 engine that generated 250 horsepower
- A 2.5-litre L4 engine that produced 230 horsepower
INFINITI QX60 FIRST GENERATION FACELIFT (2014)
The first upgrade in the Infiniti QX60 history came three years later after the first generation was launched. The new SUV was manufactured on the Murano platform to compete in the seven-seat SUV segment.
The Japanese carmaker made the Infiniti QX60 new model distinct with a broad mesh car grille and chrome surroundings. The headlights were redesigned. Besides, the lower bumper and front sides featured chrome trims. The door panels were sculpted in an arched design, reaching the tail lights.
The interior featured an infotainment system borrowed from the Nissan range. For the seating, the 2-3-2 formula was used. As a result, the second row offered 60/40 split-folding and the third row offered 50/50.
The face-lifted version was equipped with a 3.5-litre V6 engine that produced 265 horsepower and was paired with a CVT transmission. Another 2.5-litre ECCV hybrid engine was available that generated 250 horsepower. Similar to the Infiniti QX60 old models, both engines were available with an AWD and FWD system.
INFINITI QX60 SECOND GENERATION (2022- PRESENT)
The second and the current Infiniti QX60 generation was unveiled in 2021. The SUV revamped Infiniti’s foothold in the luxury segment with a sleek design and the latest technology features. It is currently available in four trim levels: Autograph, Luxe, Pure and Sensory.
The latest QX60 model features a rhomboidal mesh grille. The Infiniti logo is engraved on the lower slat, coloured in chrome. The LED headlights are equipped with a three-part DRL and have a swept-back design that stretches to the fenders. Additionally, the bumper and narrow side scoops add to the intimidating design of the SUV. Sculpted doors, rear quarter fenders and swept-back LED taillights give the QX60 an aerodynamic look.
Based on the trim level, the centre console can be removed, making the seven-seat interior spacious. In the Autograph trim, the centre row features captain seats and a removable centre console.
The zero-gravity seats are designed by NASA, while the front row has heated and ventilated seats. The QX60 also boasts a vast cargo area of 1,177 litres when the third row is folded.
The 2023 QX60 is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine, mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It comes standard with a front-wheel drive, however, all-wheel-drive is also available. The SUV has a towing capacity of 2722 kg. Also, it can produce a torque of 350 Nm.
In terms of infotainment and safety, Infiniti has offered an array of features. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen is featured on the centre stack with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity. Also, Type A and Type C USB ports are available, adding to the ride comfort of the passengers.
