All About Route 2020: Dubai Metro Extension

Dubai Metro Route 2020 Project Details
The Dubai Metro 2020 Route can take 23,000 rides per hour from each direction, collectively making a sum of 46,000 rides per hour from both sides. However, RTA Dubai aims to reach at least 125,000 rides on a daily basis in 2021 and 275,000 riders per day by 2030.
Moreover, Expo Station will also serve approximately 35,000 Expo visitors during weekdays and 47,000 visitors during weekends. Route 2020 is linked to seven stations:
- One transfer station
- One iconic station
- Three elevated stations
- Two underground stations.
The size of the elevated station ranges between 8,100 sq m to 8,800 sq m, while the Expo station covers an area of 18,800 sq m. Moreover, the size of the underground stations ranges between 27,000 to 28,700 sq m.
Dubai Metro Route 2020 Station Details
The Route 2020 features seven LEED Gold Certified stations that include two underground and three interchange stations. These stations will connect to the following points:
- Discovery Gardens
- Al Furjan
- Jumeirah Golf Estates
- The Dubai Investment Park
The 2020 Metro Route plan also includes constructing an interchange station on the Red Line, at Tower and Nakheel Harbor. The Iconic Station will also be built at the Exhibition site.
New Dubai Metro Route Map
Dubai Metro Route 2020 extends around 15 km, further divided into two sections. The elevated section comprises 11.8 km, while the remaining 3.2 km is an underground track.
The depth of the 3.2 km long tunnel ranges between 12.5 m to 36 m, located between Green Community and Discovery Garden. The plan of Route 2020 also includes the construction of a traction power supply station along with three power supply stations.

Jebel Ali Station can accommodate around 320,000 riders daily and at least 17,000 per hour during peak timings. Other highlights of the station are:
- Seven parking spots for people of determination
- Four platforms
- 17 taxi drop-offs
- Four bus lay-bys
As of now, the station is open for public use.
Al Furjan Station
Since Al Furjan is a gated community, finding public transport was a little difficult. However, with the help of Route 2020, Dubai Metro is easily accessible.
The length of Al Furjan Station is 168 meters and can facilitate around 4,746 riders daily during peak hours and 125,000 in normal condition. Other features of Al Furjan Station are:
- 20 taxi drop-off slots
- Four bus lay-bys
- Two dedicated parking slots for people of determination.

The Gardens Station

Discovery Gardens Station

Jumeirah Golf Estates Station

Dubai Investments Park Station
People living near Dubai Investment Park can now easily access public transport. For instance, it will take around 10 minutes to reach the Expo 2020 site by using the Investment Park Station. However, until the event’s opening day, the station will only allow those who have access clearance to the Expo 2020 site.
Expo Station
Expo 2020 is one of the largest stations in the Dubai Metro Extension Project. The Expo 2020 Metro Routes will help millions of people to reach the venue. Hence, the station is designed to cater for the needs of more than 520k passengers in both directions. Meaning, the Expo Station can accommodate around 46,000 passengers per hour. The multi-level station comprises a train platform level, concourse, mezzanine and a ground floor.
Service Timing of Dubai Metro Route 2020
The timings of Red and Green Metro Lines are:
- Sunday to Wednesday: 05:00 AM – 01:15 AM
- Thursday: 05:00 AM – 02:15 AM
- Friday: 08:00 AM – 02:15 AM
- Saturday: 05:00 AM – 01:15 AM
The frequency of the service will be every 2:38 minutes during peak times.
Dubai Tram also provides service during the following hours:
- Saturday to Thursday: 06:00 am to 01:00 am
- Friday: 08:00 AM to 01:00 AM
