Dubai’s stunning skyline and advanced infrastructure depend on efficient drainage systems to keep the city running smoothly. The Drainage Projects Department is crucial in this effort. The department is responsible for planning, designing and executing drainage and stormwater networks. Proper drainage prevents flooding, manages waste effectively and maintains public health standards. Let’s explore the significance, types and key providers of drainage cleaning in Dubai.
Why Do We Need Drainage Cleaning in Dubai?
Effective drainage cleaning in Dubai is essential for managing water runoff, which helps in various ways:
- Vegetation Care: Proper channelling and dispersing water runoff ensures that vegetation receives adequate water without being drowned.
- Water Supply: Collected water can be used to replenish freshwater supplies. Besides, with these water conservation tips, you can recycle and reuse water for cleaning purposes.
- Contamination Prevention: Water becomes more contaminated the longer it sits on a surface, so effective drainage reduces contamination risks.
Types of Drainage Cleaning in Dubai
Drainage cleaning in Dubai can be broadly classified into several types, each serving a specific function in water management:
Surface Drainage Systems
This drainage system uses channels or ditches to remove surplus water from the land’s surface. The ground is often shaped or sloped to encourage water flow towards these channels.
Subsurface Drainage Systems
It operates below the soil’s surface to remove excess water at the root level. These systems, often called French drains, use underground pipes installed in deep ditches to prevent waterlogging and support healthy plant growth.
Slope Drainage Systems
The slope drainage system uses pipes to channel water down a slope, directing it away from structures to prevent water accumulation near buildings.
Downspout and Gutter Systems
It collects water from rooftops and directs it to the ground. Downspouts connected to gutter systems prevent water from pooling around the base of buildings.
Combined and Separate Drainage Systems
Drainage systems can be combined or separated, each with its advantages and disadvantages:
- Combined Systems: Use a single drain to transport both sanitary and rainwater to a common sewer, which is cost-effective.
- Separate Systems: Use distinct drains for foul water (sanitary sewer) and rainwater (surface water sewer), which is more costly but effective in preventing contamination.
