In order to ensure maximum road safety for all, the government has made vehicle testing and inspection mandatory for all vehicles in Dubai. As per the emirate’s law, all cars in Dubai must be in good working condition to lower the possibility of accidents due to malfunction. The annual registration renewal is only possible after your vehicle clears the mandatory vehicle roadworthiness test.
Car owners take their cars to RTA approved customer centres to get their vehicle tested. Vehicles that fail the test are declared unsafe for roads until repaired. This guide covers everything you need to know about vehicle testing in Dubai.
Vehicle Testing Procedure In Dubai
New vehicles are exempted from the annual vehicle inspection for the first 3 years. After that, it becomes mandatory before the annual registration renewal process. The RTA has made vehicle testing procedure simple and easy for motorists. Here are the steps to follow for vehicle testing and inspection in Dubai.
- Take your car to the vehicle inspection centre. Make sure there are no valuables inside the vehicle.
- Wait as the vehicle is tested in the testing rooms. You can see the process through a screen.
- Once the test is complete, you will be notified if your car passed or failed the test.
- If any vehicle does not clear the RTA vehicle test, the car owners are supposed to make repairs suggested by the inspection officer and get their car retested within 31 days.
- If the vehicle passes the test, you will receive a “passed” certificate also known as a car passing certificate or a vehicle test certificate.
- Upon car passing in Dubai, you will receive a new date sticker and car registration card.
- For unregistered vehicles, the test is valid for a month.
Documents Needed For The Testing Process To Begin
You must take the following documents with you to the vehicle inspection and testing centre:
- Emirates ID
- Vehicle registration card
- Commercial license copy (in case the vehicle is of commercial use)
