Regularly washing your car is essential for maintaining its appearance and protecting the exterior. This applies to all vehicles, including Tesla cars, known for their advanced technology and sophistication. Recognising the need for proper care, Tesla has introduced the Tesla Car Wash Mode. This feature safeguards the vehicle from potential damage during automatic washing processes.

How Tesla Car Wash Mode Works

The Car Wash Mode on Tesla works when exposed to an automated conveyor belt, but it also works well if you want to wash your car at home.

Tesla car wash mode helps safeguard the car and makes the process of washing it easy. The car wash mode can be activated with just three taps.

Upon activation, this is how the Tesla car wash is expected to protect the car:

• Closing windows – this prevents water from getting inside the vehicle.
• Locking charge ports – this prevents it from opening when a brush pushes against it.
• Disabling windshield wipers – this prevents wipers from coming on and getting tangled or caught in the car wash’s felt strips.
• The speed goes below 16 kilometres per hour.
• Walk away door, auto wipers, parking assist chime, sentry and automatic doors are turned off.
• Trunk and front trunk are closed
• The climate option gets set to recirculating

To enhance safety, certain features are deactivated or locked. Case in point: if a Tesla car enters a car wash without the car wash mode enabled, automatic wipers might be triggered mistakenly by the system. This makes the system mistake the water pressure for rain, potentially damaging the wipers.

When the Car Wash Mode is engaged for safety purposes the vehicle’s safety, rear trunk, frunk and charge port locked automatically. Additionally, Sentry Mode is deactivated to conserve battery life and prevent unnecessary alerts.

Furthermore, in Tesla’s Car Wash Mode, you have the option to activate ‘Free Roll,’ which places the Tesla in a neutral position. This prevents the vehicle from stopping or accelerating inadvertently when moving along a conveyor belt at a car wash.

How to Use Tesla Car Wash Mode

Understanding how to enable Tesla’s Car Wash Mode is crucial for effective use. Ensure your vehicle is properly parked before activating it. Here’s a step-by-step guide to using Tesla’s Car Wash Mode:

• On the screen, navigate to Controls, then Service and select Car Wash Mode.
• Choose Enter Car Wash Mode.

Once you’ve selected the secondary button, you’ll be in Tesla’s Car Wash Mode. Most functions will automatically seal and activate. For older Model 3 vehicles manufactured before 2020, manually close the trunk if necessary. The car will alert you if the trunk is open, providing an opportunity to close it promptly to avoid water ingress.

To make use of the Free Roll mode on the conveyor belt, follow these steps: Press the brake, shift into drive mode and select the Free Roll button once it becomes visible. The button will turn blue when Free Roll mode is active.

Tesla’s Car Wash Mode is a convenient addition to electric vehicles, simplifying the car wash process for drivers with just a few straightforward steps.

Disabling Tesla Car Wash Mode

To ensure safety, Tesla’s Car Wash Mode should be deactivated once the car has left the car wash facility. This can be accomplished in two ways:

• Select the ‘Exit Car Wash Mode’ button, which will automatically deactivate the mode when chosen.
• Alternatively, if you’re unable to press the button, simply begin driving. Once the vehicle reaches a speed of over 16 km/ph (10 mph), the Tesla will automatically exit Car Wash Mode.

Both options are effective means of disabling Tesla’s Car Wash Mode.

Tesla has streamlined the process of toggling Car Wash Mode on and off, providing a convenient option that minimises the number of buttons to press when using automated car wash facilities.

This functionality is accessible on Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y automobiles, both of which are highly sought-after used Tesla models in the UAE.

Tips for Taking a Tesla to an Automatic Car Wash

Car cleaning is done at manual or automatic car washes. If you plan to take your Tesla for a spin through an automated car wash, it’s essential to remember a few key points. Washing a Tesla isn’t the same as washing an average car, so here’s what you need to keep in mind:

Avoid bristles: Tesla advises against using car washes with bristles. Opt for a touchless wash instead, where only water and soap come into contact with your vehicle’s surface.

Activate Tesla’s car wash mode: Make sure to turn on the car wash mode to prevent water from seeping into the vehicle and potentially causing damage.

By following these two tips, you’ll help maintain your Tesla in top-notch condition.

Before heading to the automated car wash, take the necessary precautions. Ignoring these guidelines could render the car wash mode ineffective. It’s crucial to prioritize the surface care of your Tesla wherever you go. After all, a Tesla is a significant investment, and it’s worth being cautious during the cleaning process. The addition of the new car wash mode is undoubtedly a helpful feature.
