The smart mobility solution revolution has slowly started around different parts of the world including UAE. Because of the growing popularity of this mode of transport, authorities in the country launched a campaign about e-scooter safety.
The campaign encourages electric scooter riders to use designated zones and paths for their electric vehicle. It also asks riders to wear knee pads, helmets and reflective clothing – especially when commuting at night.
Tools used to create awareness include social media, lectures and workshops.
According to the Dubai government, riders must be at least 16 years old and wear helmets when travelling in electric scooters. They must also possess a full driving licence and those who don’t have a licence must apply for an e-scooter permit in Dubai. Anyone caught driving an electric scooter in the UAE without a driving licence or e-scooter permit can face a fine of AED 200. Moreover, not using specific routes will result in a fine of AED 200, riding at a speed of over 60 km per hour will result in a fine of AED 300. Lastly, riding or parking e-scooters on paths that are designated for jogging or walking results in a fine of AED 200.
