The UAE’s Ministry of Energy Signs an Agreement with Audi Middle East and Siemens to Boost EV Charging Infrastructure
Many people living in the UAE are switching to eco-friendly electric vehicles (EVs) amidst the increasing fuel rates. Since many people are adopting EVs, an agreement was signed by the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) with Audi Middle East (ME) and Siemens to work on the EV charging infrastructure together.
DETAILS ON THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN AUDI UAE, SIEMENS AND THE MINISTRY OF ENERGY UAE
The agreement between Audi UAE, Siemens and the Ministry of Energy UAE was signed to increase the number of EV charging stations on federal roads. The aim is to encourage more people to adopt EVs across the Emirates. Furthermore, they plan to collaborate on many initiatives that could convince motorists to switch to sustainable mobility, such as EVs.
As per the agreement between Audi UAE, Siemens and the Ministry of Energy UAE, the MoEI will install ten rapid Siemens Sicharge D EV chargers of 160 kW. These chargers for electric vehicles in the UAE will be installed on the highways of Fujairah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain. These are cloud-connected devices that will enable their operator to remotely manage and track these EV chargers.
The discussions on UAE’s EV charging infrastructure with Audi are expected to take a boost. This is because Audi already has development and investment plans for the infrastructure for electric vehicles in the UAE. Audi is one of the popular German car manufacturers and is also one of the biggest EV manufacturers. Moreover, Audi becomes one of the premium sustainable mobility suppliers with the launch of the Audi E-Tron GT.
One of the interesting Audi facts is that it plans to launch 20+ all-electric models by the year 2026 in the UAE. Besides, the auto manufacturer is aimed to contribute to EV readiness in all of the Emirates by investing in many initiatives taken on the development of high-performance charging stations. Besides, those who wish to own one of the EVs by Audi can browse through the list of second-hand Audi cars in the UAE.
With the agreement between Audi UAE, Siemens and the Ministry of Energy UAE, Audi intends to support UAE-based EV users with innovative technologies and charging solutions, similar to the Audi Charge Hub concept. This Charge Hub is a unique concept developed around second-life batteries featuring six fast charging points with a 320 kW charging capacity.
The installation of EV chargers on the UAE’s roads is one of the vital steps toward energy transition. This transition will help the country to achieve its target of net-zero emissions by the year 2050, as the adoption of EVs and fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure is fundamental to the achievement of net-zero emissions.
The charging infrastructure installed on federal roads across the UAE will convince frequent or regular intercity travellers to shift to EVs. Also, motorists are rapidly switching to electric vehicles, given the increasing petrol prices in the UAE. And this initiative by the UAE’s Ministry of Energy will further smooth the transition of motorists to eco-friendly and sustainable mobility.
Besides, there are several private and public EV charging stations functional across the UAE. And Tesla charging stations in the UAE are one of the private EV charging hubs. Dubai, on the other hand, is home to more than 300 Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) EV Green chargers. And DEWA plans to increase the number of these EV chargers across the Emirate to 1000+ by the year 2025.
