All About Vehicular Attention & Safety Tracker (VAST)
In an attempt to make a digital government that is proactive, personalised, collaborative, and secure, the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA) has introduced a new radar monitoring system for the Abu Dhabi Police. This system is known as the Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker (VAST). It is designed to contribute to reducing accident and injury rates, thereby improving traffic safety levels across the city.
This quick guide on Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker (VAST) covers all you need to know about this system.
WHAT IS VEHICULAR ATTENTION AND SAFETY TRACKER (VAST)?
The Abu Dhabi Digital Authority has developed a VAST radar system that automatically detects traffic safety violations such as not wearing of seat belt, using a phone while driving, and various other offences carried out by the citizens. This provides the authorities to maintain strict traffic rules as anyone violating the rules of conduct gets an SMS notification.
Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker takes high-resolution images through artificial intelligence cameras. Once the authorities have caught a driver violating traffic rules, for example, despite the benefits of wearing a seat belt, drivers who violate the rule by not wearing it, receive a notification on their phone via SMS as well through email.
WORKING OF THE VEHICULAR ATTENTION AND SAFETY TRACKER
Abu Dhabi’s Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker is designed to help minimise or completely avoid fatal vehicle accidents, traffic law violations and ensure road safety across Abu Dhabi. With this system installed, the idea is to raise awareness of safe driving, as well as intimidate careless drivers on the go.
The tracker has set up radar monitoring devices at various points across the city. Artificial intelligence technology allows the authorities to capture high-resolution pictures from these multiple points that are simultaneously examined by VAST. The tracker detects the use of mobile devices or seat belt violations almost instantly, thereby sending an SMS notification to warn them for doing it and giving them a chance to immediately correct their conduct.
For further clarity, here are five phases involved in the process.

- SMS notification
- Performance dashboard
- Updating the model for new data
Given that authorities and the government are working in collaboration, the Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Transport (DoT), and ADDA all work in unison to catch violators and penalise them for the offence. The Abu Dhabi government already has strict penalties for law-breakers, such as hefty fines (AED 800) for using a mobile device while driving. Additionally, they would also receive four black points on their Abu Dhabi driving licence.
Therefore, with the Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker in place across the city, motorists should be extra careful while on road to escape the expensive fines that can be tagged with discreet cameras constantly monitoring them. Installing the VAST system in Abu Dhabi is not only to ensure safety on roads but also to guide them to adapt to safe driving practices.
Hence, whether you are planning to buy a used car in Abu Dhabi or a new one, keep in mind that you have to adhere to driving and traffic laws, implemented by the government of the capital city. This will not only save you from hefty traffic fines in Abu Dhabi and penalties but also ensure your safety.
