Details for Upcoming Transportation Projects in the UAE
The UAE strives to make the lives of its people convenient. The country invests a lot in the development of the transport sector and makes use of futuristic technologies to enhance its infrastructure. Let us go through the upcoming transportation projects in the UAE and their significance in detail.
Upcoming Transport Projects in the UAE
The UAE plans to work towards the betterment of its already established technological sector with the help of big data, artificial intelligence, internet, quality standards and the latest technologies among other factors. Following are important upcoming transportation projects in the UAE.
Dubai Autonomous Transport Strategy
Among upcoming public transportation projects in the UAE, the Dubai autonomous transport strategy plans to transform 25% of Dubai’s total transport in autonomous mode. The estimated revenue expected from the Dubai autonomous transport strategy is AED 22 billion.
Several things will factor in this generation of revenue including lower transportation cost, lower waste of conventional transport, lower carbon emission, lower accident rates and an increase in overall productivity. The plan is to turn Dubai’s transportation into autonomous mode by 2030.
According to the authorities, a 44% drop in transportation expense is expected, this will roughly translate to a saving of AED 900 million per year. Furthermore, the project is expected to cut down on environmental pollution by 12%, this, in turn, will result in a saving of AED 1.5 billion.
On a whole, a staggering AED 18 billion is expected to go into the country’s economy by 2030 with an efficient transportation sector.
Dubai autonomous transportation strategy also aims to reduce the rate of traffic accidents. A 12% drop in traffic accidents is expected to result in a saving of AED 2 billion per year. Moreover, a 13% increase in individual productivity is also expected. The upcoming driverless transport system will save 396 million hours on transportation trips annually. The spaces allocated to parking vehicles will reduce.
Main sectors identified for the application of the futuristic strategy include buses, taxis and metro.
Hyperloop Dubai
Upcoming transportation projects in the UAE also include the futuristic Hyperloop Dubai. Virgin Hyperloop is the only company that successfully tested the Hyperloop technology with passengers.
Basically, passengers will be able to travel at a speed of about 100km/hour in a vacuum-tube Hyperloop with a top speed of 12,000 kilometres per hour. To clarify, you will be able to get Abu Dhabi from Dubai in just 12 minutes, if you go to Abu Dhabi from Dubai in a car it takes over an hour.
A deal between Virgin Hyperloop and Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Centre has been signed for the UAE Hyperloop Project.
The Hyperloop tubes will be powered by solar energy and a total of 45 million passengers are expected to travel via this mode of transport yearly. The project is expected to complete by late 2022.
Sky Pod Dubai
Sky Pods are aerial public transport systems. Commuters in Dubai will have the opportunity to move around without worrying about traffic with the help of futuristic Sky Pods. Also known as Unibike and Unicar models, Sky Pods are lightweight vehicles attached with steel-made wheels to move on an air-suspended airline, much like a high-speed cable car style transportation.
Dubai Sky Pod Transport System or Dubai Sky Pod Transit System initiative is taken by the RTA Dubai to meet the government’s goal of making 25% of urban public transport in Dubai smart, driverless and automated by 2030.
Sky Pod Dubai is already in the works and the project is expected to revolutionize Dubai’s transport network.
A total of 21 Sky Pod Stations have been announced. The upcoming RTA project is expected to accommodate more than 8,400 passengers in one direction per hour. Each electric Sky Pod will have a seating capacity of 4 passengers.
Surface Transport Master Plan Abu Dhabi
Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) Abu Dhabi is another important upcoming transportation project of the country. STMP plans to develop a sustainable transport system capable of supporting the capital city’s economic, cultural, social and environmental goals.
The ultimate goal of the Abu Dhabi Surface Master Plan is to develop a futuristic transportation system that uses resources responsibly, minimizes pollution and preserves the capital city’s natural environment.
Given the basic objectives, STMP Abu Dhabi also plans to come up with a solution that meets the needs and expectations of tourists, residents and businesses in the capital in a reliable, efficient, safe, well-designed and environmentally suitable manner.
The basic principles to attain the goals of low carbon emission and higher resource sustainability include:
- An extensive public transport network powered by alternative fuels and leading renewable energy technology.
- Use of innovative systems like the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), which uses the country’s abundance of sunshine for solar power.
- A commitment towards lower carbon emissions in all transport aspects starting from design, construction to operation.
- Encouragement to use modes of transport that are not harmful to the environment including cycling and walking.
The project has four major pillars: infrastructure, legislative structure, technology and individuals. Transport modes that will be affected by the change in the strategy include buses, metro and taxis.
Abu Dhabi Transportation Mobility Management Strategy
Among known upcoming transportation projects in the UAE is the Abu Dhabi Transportation Mobility Management Strategy. This future transportation project in the UAE aims to meet the following objectives set by the government by 2030:
- Encourage a change in behaviour and attitude towards the use of sustainable modes of transportation
- Provide better-quality access to public transport for residents and businesses by improving conditions that result in sustainable modes of transport.
- Satisfy transportation needs by assimilating and increasing the efficiency of existing and planned transportation projects and by making better use of the land infrastructure.
- Reduce traffic congestion and growth by shifting from private car trips to more sustainable and efficient transportation modes.
- Develop a multimodal public transport network that will interconnect and inter-operate between different associated transportation networks.
Sky Pod Sharjah
Just like Dubai, Sharjah is also working on its very own electrical Sky Pod Transportation system. Once functional, the Sky Pods running across a super-strong string (much like a cable car) is going to cover 2.4 km in less than a minute at a speed of 120 km/hour. These pods are going to have a capacity of four passengers.
UAE’s upcoming transportation project is about 80% complete and runs on top of Sharjah Airport Road to University Road covering 2.8 km. The passenger model has a load capacity of four tonnes with passengers, it can also deliver 12 metre containers.
By using Sky Pods, land can be preserved in the emirate for greener spaces and for the development of properties.
That is all about the upcoming transportation projects in the UAE. With the help of these futuristic and environment-friendly modes of transportations, the traffic woes of people on the road will come to an end.
