Vehicle maintenance in the UAE is governed by a comprehensive legal framework to ensure all vehicles meet the country’s road safety standards. Federal legislation establishes key requirements such as technical inspections and approvals for major modifications, shaping how vehicles are maintained across the Emirates. Understanding these regulations helps motorists comply and avoid hefty fines and penalties.
Vehicle Maintenance Laws and Regulations in the UAE
Federal Decree-Law No. (14) of 2024 governs traffic regulation across the UAE, setting the baseline requirements for the vehicle maintenance. Repair Standards

- If the vehicle is not older than one year, the damaged parts should only be replaced with original ones with no depreciation.
- Trailers and semi-trailers must comply with the specified size limits and be fitted with compliant lighting and reflector systems to support road safety.
- For the workshops in Abu Dhabi, it is necessary to provide transaction information, written warranty documentation, complaint handling within 7 days and responses to department inquiries within 24 hours.
Vehicle Seizure
Vehicles in the UAE may be seized on roadworthiness grounds under the following conditions:
