- How TSS works
- Toyota models equipped with TSS
Without further ado, let’s dive into the details of the Toyota Safety Sense.
What is Toyota Safety Sense

Toyota is one of the leading used Japanese car brands in the UAE that provides reliable vehicles that come with the latest technology. The latest Toyota models are equipped with modern safety features such as TSS. The Toyota Safety Sense is equipped with six active technologies to prevent collision as well as mitigate damage during the day and at night.
With the help of these systems, the Toyota Safety Sense can detect vehicles and pedestrians, whereas, it also detects cyclists in some Toyota models.
How TSS Works

The Toyota Safety Sense is integrated into the vehicle. For the road ahead view, there is a camera mounted on the car windshield, behind the rearview mirror. The camera is supplemented with the help of a radar Sense, which is placed on the front bumper or in the grille. Besides, other systems function the TSS and help to react in emergencies. The included systems are as follows:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Departure Alert
- Automatic High Beams
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)

The PCS w/PD helps in mitigating or avoiding the impact of a vehicle or pedestrian in an emergency. The system alarms the driver to take prompt action and apply the brake by using audio. On the other hand, the visual alert is followed by the brake assist. However, if you failed to apply the brake on time then the system will apply the brake automatically.
Moreover, the in-vehicle camera and a radar Sense can also detect a bicyclist ahead and will alert you to take action by using audio and visual warnings.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) also known as adaptive cruise control lets you drive at a preset speed. The DRCC enables the driver to automatically maintain the pre-set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. If the DRCC detects that the preceding vehicle is driving at a slow speed then the system in the Toyota car will slow down the speed and maintain a safe following distance. Also, if the speed of the preceding vehicle is fast then, the DRCC will still accelerate at the pre-set speed.
Lane Departure Alert

Moving on, the Lane Departure Alert is designed to issue an audio/visual warning if it detects you crossing the lane lines unintentionally. Some Toyota cars also come with Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist which helps the vehicle in resuming its position in the lane. Moreover, the system also offers gentle corrective steering in case the driver isn’t able to take the correct action.
Automatic High Beams (AHB)
The AHB camera is placed on the windshield to aid a driver while nighttime driving at speeds above 25 mph. With the help of a camera, the AHB detects the headlights and taillights of preceding vehicles. It also automatically toggled between low and high beams as per the requirement.
Lane Tracing Assist
Moreover, the Lane Tracing Assist works together with DRCC to keep the vehicle centred in the lane and helps in avoiding unintended lane departures. The Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) is designed to monitor the driver’s action, while LTA is activated. The LAT is not for semi-autonomous driving, hence, the driver must drive by holding a steering wheel.
Road Sign Assist

The job of Road Sign Assist is to detect the speed limit, not enter and yield signs by using a forward-facing intelligent camera. The signs are displayed by the system on the Multi-Information Display (MID).
