Dubai’s Eco-Friendly Bus Depots
The UAE government is working on a number of initiatives to make the Emirates eco-friendly. Dubai’s sustainable bus depots are a practical step toward this initiative. In this step, bus depots are encouraged to recycle water and reduce water wastage. For this purpose, special water recycling plants are provided to the bus depots. This is a landmark achievement toward the RTA’s aim of safety and environmental sustainability.
When fully functional, these plants can recycle 100% of water. Let’s discuss the RTA’s eco-friendly bus depots in more detail.
Dubai’s Eco-Friendly Bus Depot Station
After the eco-friendly roads in the UAE, Dubai is all set for its eco-friendly bus depots. The first outcome of this recycling initiative was observed at the Al Rawiya Bus Depot. It is considered a greater achievement due to the amount of water used by the depot.
According to RTA Dubai, Al Rawiya used 12 million gallons of water in 2020, and currently, it is recycling 100% water. By recycling, it has dropped the count of water consumption from one million to 100,000 gallons/month.
How Recycling Plant Works
The process of recycling water can vary from recycling plant manufacturer to manufacturer, but the core process remains the same. The first step in water recycling is pretreatment, in which bar screens are used to remove large solid particles from the water.
In the second phase, biological and chemical elements are removed from the water to make it usable. Sterilization is the final step, after which water can be reused.
What Bus Depots Will Do with Recycled Water
A large amount of recycled water can be used for multiple purposes such as irrigation. Al Rawiya Bus Depot uses its recycled water to irrigate the landscape area in front of the depot. This irrigation serves as a prime example of biodiversity and environmental conservation.
In the near future, recycled water can also be used for cleaning purposes. Along with this, water-based chillers can also be operated from the recycled water without causing additional water wastage. However, this water is not considered safe for drinking. This is because the wastewater treatment plants at the bus depots are smaller in size and can perform limited functions.
This was all about RTA’s eco-friendly bus depots that can create a positive impact on the environment. Along with wastewater reduction, the lesser demand for water also reduces the carbon footprint of transportation vehicles.
If you also want to reduce the carbon footprint of your vehicle, drive modern cars as they have better carbon emissions contrary to old vehicles. You can browse through these used cars for sale in the UAE and upgrade your old vehicle.
