History of Rolls-Royce Car Logo
Rolls-Royce always enjoys a significant position in the market. Some famous models of Rolls-Royce were also featured as James Bond cars. Therefore, to maintain its brand identification Rolls-Royce was very peculiar about its logos. Let’s discuss different variations of Rolls-Royce logos used over the years.
1906 to 1934
One of the earliest logos of Rolls-Royce was similar to a four-piece coat of arms. The top section of the logo contains the Rolls-Royce emblem and a symbol of a lioness representing bravery. Whereas, the bottom section contains a symbol of seahorse and wings representing power and reliability. The history of Rolls-Royce logo shows that the rectangle shape with ‘RR’ is uniform in all the logos.
1911 to 1934
The traditional Rolls-Royce logo was modified in 1911. The four sections were replaced with the two heraldic lions. The upper part was decorated with wings and the lower part contains the red rose of Lancaster. The motto of the company ‘The best car in the world’ was inscribed on a ribbon and placed beneath the rose. However, the rectangle shape with letters was placed at the same position.
During this time another logo was also introduced to be used as a Rolls-Royce mark of identification. This two-dimensional logo was much simpler, contrary to the older ones. The traditional rectangle shape was replaced with an oval one. The rest was kept simple with a decorative boundary line.
1973 to 1998
The 1973 logo was a redesigned minimalist badge with a minimum number of elements. It was a blue coloured rectangle shape with a silver and white ‘RR” monogram in the centre. The letters in the centre were two-dimensioned to create a visually distinct appearance.
1990 to 2020
The 1990 logo was a step further in unadorned logo tradition. It was a silver-colored rectangle-shaped logo with curved edges. The monogram of ‘RR’ was inscribed from the black colour in the centre. This black colour was also used to inscribe the full name of the brand at the top and bottom of the logo.
2022 to Present
The latest model of Rolls-Royce is redesigned to cater the younger target audience. The signature rectangle shape is removed and only letters “RR” are present. These letters are directly placed at the front of the bonnet.
