How To Replace and Upgrade Car Speakers
We all spend a lot of time listening to the music of our choice at home and while commuting. That is why it is the top priority to install and or upgrade car speakers when they go bad. As compared to installing speakers at home, installing or replacing car speakers is a little challenging.
Here is a complete guide on how to upgrade car speakers in a smooth manner.
Here is How to Replace and Upgrade Car Speakers
To upgrade car speakers, go through the manual and figure out the speaker that goes best with your vehicle. Instead of buying the most expensive speaker, the wise thing to do is to discover the right speaker fit for your car. Once you find the best and right speakers for your car, follow these steps for DIY replacement of car speakers:
Step 1
Organize the tools and keep everything within your reach and make sure your car is parked in a garage or street with ample space.
Step 2
Disconnect your car’s battery. Use panel popping tools to carefully remove the panels (some speakers are in the car door panels while others are in the boot). Remove the old car speaker, keep track of all the screws you remove and note the wire connection.
Step 3
Next, connect your new car speakers to the already existing wire. Make sure you connect the right wires to the right terminals (read the user manual). Before fully installing the new speakers, test the sound after reconnecting the battery. Once tested, disconnect the battery again, and install the speaker. Fix the screws, plates, panels and any other speaker or door pieces that were removed earlier. Upgraded car speakers improves the driving experience of music enthusiasts.
How to Remove Speakers from the Door Panel
To remove the car speakers from the doors follow these steps:
Step 1
Turn off your car’s ignition. Start by removing the door handles with the window buttons. You will find a trim piece behind the handle. Take a pocket screwdriver and go underneath the trim, push it back a little bit and that will allow you to remove the trim piece.
Step 2
Next, with a plastic trim tool go up underneath the trim and pop it loose. Be careful throughout the process because a lot of the stuff will be brittle. Pull the trim piece far enough to get access to the door locks and the window switch.
Step 3
Disconnect the switch. You will have access to three switches by now, unscrew them. Go under the door panel with a trim removal tool and pray the door panel away. Then, gently pull the clip of these panels away from the left and right side. Grab the bottom of the door panel and pull it gently away from the door and lift it up. Make sure you clear the door lock rod. Pull the panel away, it will still be connected with wires.
Step 4
Keep a rolling chair or small chair and slide it underneath the panel so that it doesn’t hang in the air with wires. Go behind the door panel and disconnect all the connectors/wires. Start with the lock indicator connector, move over to the inner door pull handle, disconnect the mirror adjustment. Lastly, move the light to the bottom of your door.
Step 5
Lay the door panel down on the chair. Disconnect the fuel door and the trunk release. Now that everything is disconnected, get the door panel out of the way. The first thing you will see is your car speaker. Most car speakers are held in with four rivets.
Step 6
In order to get the old speaker out of the car, you will have to drill the rivets out. Before the drilling begins, make sure the windows are rolled up throughout the process or else they might get cracked. Use a drill that goes with the size of the rivet. After all four rivets are pulled out, disconnect your speaker and pull out the speaker with your hands or use a pry bar to pry the speaker out.
Step 7
Fit your new, upgraded speaker and connect all the switches. After you are done with fitting everything back into place, put the door panel back and fix your lock rod.
Safety Tools for Removing Car Speakers
You will be working with electrical things while taking out speakers from your car. Therefore, as a rule, always disconnect the battery and switch the car’s ignition off to avoid any dangerous situations. Make sure to:
- Wear gloves
- Keep the right tools ready
- Replace the interior pieces of door panels exactly the way they were
Badly installed door panels not only look bad, but they can also result in safety concerns when you drive.
