POLESTAR HISTORY AND FACTS
The Swedish automobile company had been part of Volvo’s factory team in the Touring Car Championships since 1996. In 2010, a Chinese company Geely Automotive bought the company. However, Volvo acquired the company again in 2015.

FOUNDATION OF THE COMPANY
In 1996, Volvo started a factory for the Swedish Touring Car Championship. However, 2005 took a turn around when Swedish motorsport specialists Cyan Racing team adopted the company and named it Polestar. Since then, Polestar has manufactured parts for Volvo’s racing cars, such as the S60.
In 2010, Polestar was bought by the Chinese automaker, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which is also Volvo’s parent company. That said, the Polestar car models are now manufactured in China and aiming to become a top rival to the EV pioneer, Tesla.
FIRST CAR
Polestar was an official partner of Volvo’s performance team. The Swedish auto brand made a concept prototype of Volvo’s C30 hatchback that won the Swedish Touring Car Title. The prototype boasted a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine producing around 450 hp and 510 N-m torque.
However, Polestar revealed its first official car, ‘Polestar 1’, a 4-seater coupe in 2017. It was a hybrid car producing 600 horsepower. That said, the car was equipped with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine similar to Volvo’s XC90 T8. Besides, the car had twin electric motors providing a range of 150 kilometres when fully charged. Moreover, only 500 units were available in its first year of production.

Polestar was manufacturing motorsport cars for Volvo. It won several championship awards such as the World Touring Car Championship driver’s and constructor’s titles in 2017. Although it has not been so long since the company started manufacturing its cars, it has managed multiple achievements.
Polestar 2 has already won over forty awards, such as Remarkable Innovation by Design, Product Innovation of the year, The Golden Bagel Award, and the IG Nobel Prize. The list goes beyond these achievements as the company has outperformed in the design innovation sector.
POLESTAR SPACES

Currently, Polestar has around 130 retail locations and plans to expand to 160 by the end of 2022. In February 2022, the first Polestar Space opened in the Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. UAE customers can meet Polestar experts, take test drives and purchase Polestar 2 from their Space. The Polestar Space in Dubai currently sells the all-new 2022 model of Polestar 2 alongside the test drive.
EXPANSION OF THE SWEDISH AUTOMOBILE COMPANY
Polestar is constantly expanding. The company launched its 25th global market in 2022. In 2022, Polestar started its operations in six new countries including UAE, Kuwait, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Hong Kong. Moreover, Polestar has launched three different models in consecutive years, and there are more than 55,000 Polestar cars on the road globally.
PRESENT AND FUTURE CAR MODELS BY POLESTAR
One more interesting Polestar fact is its goal to achieve sustainability as part of its future mobility program. Currently, Polestar 1 and 2 are up for sale, and the company is ready to launch the Polestar 3 in the last quarter of 2022. That said, Polestar 3 will be the first electric SUV by the Swedish auto brand.
Other than that, the prototypes for Polestar 4 and 5 are in the advanced stages of design and development. Moreover, these Polestar cars are expected to launch in 2023 and 2024.
