After the successful addition of these hybrid vehicles, around 71% of all the vehicles in the fleet will be eco-friendly. This also aligns with the master plan of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy to reduce the carbon emissions from taxis by 2%. The core advantage of this inclusion will be reduced expenditure, low maintenance and lesser fuel consumption.
Toyota Camry-The Perfect Hybrid Taxi
The fleet currently has a large number of Toyota Camry hybrid models. These vehicles are considered suitable for the fleet due to their higher fuel efficiency, lower maintenance and higher resale value. According to the non-luxury annual car market report 2021, Camry is one of the most popular Toyota models in the UAE. The latest 2022 Toyota Camry is equipped with a 2.5-Litre 4-Cylinder hybrid engine including Toyota’s safety package. Along with this, the 18-inch wheelbase increases the cabin space making it more spacious. The average fuel mileage of the Camry on the city and highway is 22 km/l.
Future Impact of Hybrid Taxis
The initiative of including new vehicles in the Dubai Taxi Fleet is a part of a long-term initiative. Along with contributing to the Green Economy, these inclusions will create a significant impact on capturing the market share of taxis in Dubai. According to RTA, the addition of new vehicles to Dubai Taxi will increase the market share of the corporation to 44% by 2023. Whereas, the limousine market share in the e-hail app will also increase from 8.5% to 12% in 2023.
