All about NASCAR
National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is one of the most revered racing organisations in the world. It is a sanctioning body that oversees the rules, regulations and scoring of different stock cars races. Cars from different countries participate in NASCAR races, making it one of the most popular sports events.
Let’s discuss the different types of races, events, tracks and cars included in NASCAR.
NASCAR Motorsport
NASCAR has certain car body type regulations for their events as only sedans modified as stock car are permitted to participate. A stock car refers to any normal vehicle that is made (modified) suitable for motorsports. Selected vehicles, legendary drivers, and exciting race tracks contributed to the rapid popularity of NASCAR events.
Here are the complete details regarding NASCAR history and its contribution to motorsports.
NASCAR History
Bill France was an auto mechanic, race driver and also a motorsport event organiser. He arranged stock car racing events across the southeastern United States during the 1930s and 40s. Taking these events a step further Bill founded a motorsport organisation named National Championship Stock Car Circuit (NCSCC). The organisation was responsible for arranging 40 stock car races in the US.
After arranging races for a year, sponsors and stakeholders invested in the company and relaunched it as NASCAR. Since then, NASCAR has been organising stock car races under strict laws and scoreboard regulations.
Race Cars
The modern NASCAR race cars have to follow strict regulations to participate in the event. These stock cars must be built (modified) from scratch solely for racing purposes. Moreover, the car must be a sedan with no open wheel and fenders on the side.
The wheelbase should be 110-inch and should not weigh more than 1542 kgs. The stock car must be powered by an efficient V8 engine only. According to these conditions, vehicles such as Toyota Camry, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro will be best suited for NASCAR.
Race Tracks
Currently, NASCAR arranges 36 races on 22 different tracks. The race tracks are usually oval or D-Shaped and can vary in length. The majority of NASCAR races are arranged in the southern part of the USA. In the UAE, Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina Circuit tracks can be considered for arranging NASCAR races.
Stage Point System
Stage racing is the latest inclusion in the NASCAR races, introduced in 2017. The stage points system enables drivers to earn some additional points when the race is restarted. It works as an additional incentive and increases the thrill during the race. The core reason for this is that, these points tailed up at the end of the race and are included in the final score of the driver. Hence, these scores have the ability to influence the overall result of the race.
NASCAR Races
NASCAR sponsors a wide range of sports events among which stock car races have a huge fan following. Here we have listed the three most popular and best NASCAR races arranged annually.
Cup Series
The Cup series is one of the major events of NASCAR. A point score system is used to determine the winner of this championship. The points are awarded as per the laps led and finish placement.
A total of 36 races are arranged and after the first 26 races, 16 drivers are selected on the basis of the scoreboard. These 16 drivers compete in the last 10 races to win the Cup Series. The Daytona 500 is the longest race of this series arranged annually at Daytona International Speedway.
The championship is arranged at different tracks within America and across the globe. However, the major portion of this championship is arranged in the Eatern States of the USA. Oval tracks and road courses are the first priority for the race. In 2020, exhibition races were arranged in Australia and Japan. For the 2022 Cup Series, LA Coliseum has been selected. The venue has previously hosted two olympic events and will host NASCAR for the first time.
Xfinity
The Xfinity series is also known as the minor league of NASCAR. It is arranged a day before the Cup Series race and is often used as an opportunity to practice for the Cup Series.
Camping World Truck Series
The World Truck Series arranged by NASCAR features different modified trucks powered by V8 or OHV engines. 36 trucks participate in each race, and 12 qualifiers from the first quarter participate in the second quarter of the race. The scoreboard is simpler, contrary to other races, whoever completes the lap in the shortest time wins the race.
This was all about Nascar laps, cars and races. Currently, NASCAR is only arranging races in different parts of the USA. However, it has inspired similar events in other parts of the world. For car enthusiasts in the UAE, you can enjoy events arranged at YAS Marina Circuit or at Dubai Autodrome. In the UAE, similar to stock car racing, the Speedcar Series is arranged in 2022. This stock car race is segmented into different parts and will be arranged at different venues across the Emirate.
As far as participation is concerned, it requires huge finances, documentations and a properly modified stock car for participating in NASCAR races. You can convert any sedan into a stock car, but it is better to use tested models. Here we have listed popular sedan models used to make stock car:
- Buy used Chevrolet Camaro for sale in the UAE
- Buy second-hand Toyota Camry for sale in the UAE
- Buy used Ford Mustang for sale in the UAE
