Safety has always been a paramount concern for both automakers and drivers alike. In recent years, however, the automotive industry has witnessed a revolutionary transformation in safety technology. Among the frontrunners in this journey is Lexus, a brand synonymous with luxury and innovation. Lexus’s commitment to passenger safety has ushered in a new era in accident prevention with the introduction of the Lexus Safety System+.
Here, we will discuss the features of Lexus Safety System+ and how this advanced technology helps ensure road safety.
What is the Lexus Safety System?
The Lexus Safety System+ is a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that are standard on all Lexus models. It is designed to help prevent accidents and protect occupants by supporting the driver’s awareness, decision-making and vehicle operation.
How Does Lexus Safety System Work?
The Lexus Safety System+ uses a variety of car sensors, including cameras, radar and advanced algorithms to enhance road safety. Through these sensors and cameras, the LSS+ detects potential collisions and issues warnings to alert the driver. In extreme scenarios, the safety suite even applies brakes automatically to prevent collisions.
Features of Lexus Safety System
Let’s find out about the different Lexus Safety System features.
Driver Assist Technology
Lexus emphasises the importance of providing drivers with tools that enhance safety and comfort, whether navigating crowded city streets. The Lexus Safety System+ boasts several innovative driver-assist technologies that seamlessly integrate into your driving experience.
Here is the Lexus Safety System overview of driver assist features.
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
Lane Tracing Assist serves as a valuable companion when navigating tight bends on the highway or city streets. This system helps keep your vehicle centred within its lane.
Moreover, LTA in the Lexus Safety System+ also switches to lane departure prevention control if it senses the vehicle departing from the lane. This proactive approach significantly reduces the risk of lane departure accidents.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Highway driving often involves dealing with fluctuating traffic speeds. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control employs millimetre-wave radar and a camera to monitor the vehicle in front, automatically maintaining a safe following distance.
If the leading vehicle comes to a stop, your Lexus will do the same. When the traffic begins moving again, your vehicle will seamlessly resume its course, reducing driver fatigue in stop-and-go traffic situations.
Road Sign Assist (RSA)
Unfamiliar roads can be daunting, but Road Sign Assist (RSA) does all it can to help. This system recognises traffic signs and displays relevant information on the multi-information display. When combined with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, a Lexus can automatically adjust its speed to adhere to the recognised UAE speed limits, enhancing safety on unfamiliar routes.
Automatic High Beam (AHB)
Driving at night can be challenging, especially when dealing with oncoming or preceding vehicles. Automatic High Beam technology uses a windscreen-mounted camera to detect these vehicles and automatically switches between high and low beams to prevent dazzling other drivers.
The Automatic High Beam feature ensures optimal visibility without compromising the safety of other road users. However, one must know the rules of flashing high beams in the UAE to avoid penalties.
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
One of the Lexus Advanced Safety features is the Pre-Collision System which is integrated into the Lexus Enform Connectivity system. This feature takes safety to the next level by utilising millimetre-wave radar and a stereo camera to detect potential hazards. This system can now identify pedestrians at night and sudden appearances of bicycles during the day.
When danger is detected, a visible warning in the head-up display prompts the driver to take action. If no action is taken, the system will increase brake pressure to mitigate or prevent a collision.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Lane Keeping Assist
Long drives and new routes require heightened concentration. Lane Departure Alert provides a suite of features, including Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist and Vehicle Sway Warning, to keep you in your lane and attentive to the road.
Blind Spot Monitor
The Blind Spot Monitor makes changing lanes safer and more precise. This technology provides accurate information about the positioning of other vehicles in your blind spots, enhancing your situational awareness and ensuring smooth lane changes.
Passenger & Pedestrian Protection
Lexus doesn’t limit safety enhancements to just the driver. The Lexus Safety System+ extends its protective reach to passengers and pedestrians alike.
Front Cross Traffic Alert
Among the Lexus Safety System features, the Front Cross Traffic Alert detects both vehicles and bicycles passing in front of your vehicle and warns the driver through the car’s head-up display. If a collision is anticipated, a buzzer is activated, providing a crucial extra layer of safety at busy junctions.
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
The Pre-Collision System has been taken to a new level in the Lexus LS, one of the popular used Lexus cars in the UAE. It incorporates a Front Lateral Side Pre-Crash System and Active Steering Assist to defend against diagonal approaches.
Additionally, an advanced pedestrian alert system is included, which can also detect cyclists and pedestrians at night. This holistic approach to pedestrian safety ensures that all road users are better protected than ever before.
Lexus CoDrive
Lexus CoDrive seamlessly combines the most innovative driving enhancements, such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert. This puts the driver in control and makes driving safer and more enjoyable. The system also provides clear information about the status of driving support through multi-information displays.
Adaptive High-Beam System (AHS)
The Adaptive High-Beam System intelligently controls individual LEDs within each headlamp, providing precise control over light distribution. This system uses a top-mounted camera to detect light from vehicles ahead, ensuring that the road ahead is illuminated without causing glare to oncoming vehicles.
