A high-performance muffler is a car component that is used to reduce vibrations and noses, created when exhaust gases exit the engine. Aside from vibration control, the mufflers can also help in improving exhaust flow, leading to better fuel economy. That said, mufflers can be considered an integral part of the vehicle that can affect its overall performance.
Let’s discuss high-performance mufflers, their types and benefits in more detail.
How High-Performance Mufflers Works
The working of the muffler starts from sound waves generated by the engine. The sound waves enter into the muffler through the car’s exhaust system. Once the sound waves enter the muffler, the destructive interference reduces and absorbs sound waves. Creating a balance between noise minimisation and the flow of exhaust gases, the muffler ensures optimum engine performance.

High-Performance Mufflers Types
The aftermarket mufflers can be divided into three different types. Following are the complete details regarding the high-performance muffler types.
Glass Pack Muffler
The glass pack or straight-through mufflers are wrapped in a fibreglass layer which absorbs sound and vibration. Moreover, stainless steel meshes are also used in glass pack mufflers to control back pressure. The glass pack mufflers create a high-pitched sound.
Chambered Muffler
The chambered mufflers are standard ones used by the automobile manufacturers. The muffler is divided into different chambers ranging from single to four. The chambered mufflers are known for producing a deep sound, among all the single-chambered mufflers make the highest sound.
Turbo Muffler
The turbo mufflers use perforated tubes as baffles paired with additional sound-deadening material. The exhaust gases pass through long perforated tubes resulting in less sound.
Combination Muffler
The combination mufflers are a hybrid of the above-mentioned categories of mufflers. That said, the combination muffler is known for providing a balance of sound and performance.
High-Performance Mufflers Benefits
Now that you are aware of working and types of high-performance mufflers, let’s move towards its benefits.
Increase Fuel Economy
The first and foremost benefit of a high-performance muffler is a better fuel economy. The muffler reduces back pressure and maintains exhaust gas flow leading to less fuel consumption.
Besides mufflers, here are some other ways to save fuel that you can opt for.
Increase Power
Mufflers are known for maintaining engine performance and reducing fuel consumption. These factors combine to help mufflers in increasing the engine power output. The efficient engine performance also reduces emissions, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint of a car.
Better Engine Sound
In certain cases, the high-performance mufflers can make the engine sound better than the original one. That said, the better engine sound contributes to enhancing the driving experience.
Cost Efficient
High-performance muffler increases engine efficiency and fuel economy. Due to this, the overall cost of fuel and maintenance is reduced. The better performance and proper exclusion of gases prolong the life of different engine parts.
Tips to Maintain High-Performance Muffler
Similar to exhaust system maintenance, mufflers also require regular checkups. Following are some of the tips for maintaining a high-performance muffler.
Clean Regularly
Dirt and grime can build up inside the mufflers; therefore, it is suggested to regularly inspect and clean them. It is suggested to clean mufflers every 6 months.
Protect from Rust
Although the majority of high-performance mufflers are manufactured from corrosion-resistant material, it is still important to protect it. Here is how to remove rust from the car conveniently.
The first way is to apply an anti-resistant coat on the mufflers. The second is to drive a car regularly to evaporate any condensation in the exhaust.
Check Leaks
Check for the leaks in the muffler regularly as it can affect the performance. The most common symptom of leaks in muffler is water dripping. Here are all the reasons and fixes for water leakage from the muffler. Heated silicon can be used for minor leaks. However, in case of severe damage, it is recommended to change the muffler.
You can browse through auto parts for sale in the UAE to buy a used muffler that fits your budget.
Replace Damage Parts
In case of any damaged parts like hangers or exhaust pipes, immediately replace it to maintain optimal performance.
FAQs
Can I install an aftermarket muffler in the UAE?
Noisy exhausts are usually not appreciated; however, a properly fitted one with controlled sound can be installed. Please remember that permission from official authorities is required.
What is the cost of an aftermarket car muffler?
The aftermarket car muffler can cost anywhere between AED 40 to AED 100.
Can I drive my car without a muffler?
You can drive a car without a muffler, but it can cause adverse effects on nearby pedestrians.
This was all about a high-performance muffler, its working and benefits. The high-performance mufflers are used to reduce engine noise and remove exhaust gases. In some cases, the mufflers are also used to make the engine sound better. Apart from the company-fitted ones, there are a number of aftermarket mufflers. However, it is necessary to adhere to the UAE’s aftermarket car parts rule prior to installing mufflers. To avoid the hassle, browse through these used cars for sale in the UAE and opt for a car pre-equipped with a muffler.
