Classic Car Registration in The UAE

Documents Required for Classic Car Registration in the UAE
These documents are needed for classic car registration in the UAE:
- Previous registration in case of prior registration
- Vehicle Customs Certificate
- Original invoices from the vehicle manufacturers
- Car insurance documents
- Valid Emirates ID/Passport
- Valid and original UAE driving license
- Other historical documents
Classic Car Registration in Dubai
For a car to be considered a classic, it must be 30 years old. Furthermore, it should follow the safety guidelines set by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Automobile Touring Club UAE (ATC).
Category Assignment
In the UAE, a classic car is tested in two ways; visual checks and safety checks. Based on these tests, the classic cars are assigned different categories. These are:
- A – The cars in category A are allowed to be driven for 10,000 km/year on all the UAE roads. Cars manufactured from 1950 and onwards are usually put in this category.
- B – The owners of these vehicles can drive them all across the UAE at the limit of 5,000 km/year. Cars built before 1950 come under this category.
- C – These cars are not allowed on the Dubai streets because of speed limits as some Dubai roads have a minimum limit of 60 km/h.
- D – Cars in this category shouldn’t be driven in the evening mainly because of the equipment such as headlights as they are not enough for low lit areas. However, you can drive them during the day.
- E – You can only drive category E cars on service and internal roads.
- F – These cars are only for display purposes.
Classic Car Registration Fee in Dubai
The classic car registration fee amounts to around AED 850 with the registration fee being AED 430 while the classic car inspection cost is AED 420 in the UAE. A brown number plate is issued after the registration is completed.
Classic Car Registration in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi, classic cars are divided into only two categories. The first category is for the cars that you can drive on all roads with a registration period of one year. The classic car registration cost for this category is AED 400 while the renewal fee is AED 350.
In the second category, classic cars that are not to be driven are considered for only car exhibitions. Technical tests and Abu Dhabi car insurance are mandatory for such cars. The registration fee for these vehicles is around AED 1100 for a three-year period and the renewal cost is AED 1050.
The cars belonging to the second category must be transported in a truck and should never be driven on the roads.
