First Generation 4L (2006 to 2009)
The journey of the Audi Q7 started from the launch of its first model in 2006. The model featured a curved roofline lifted from the centre accompanied by a flat window area and lines running from front to rear end. The front end had a dynamic sweep; whereas, the rear end had a sloop.
The Q7 was built on a wider wheelbase that makes the cabin spacious. High-quality upholstery was used in the cabin interior. The centre console was equipped with an infotainment and Audi Music system. Different seating configurations were available in the Q7 with a maximum seating capacity of seven.
The car was offered in three different trims: Prestige, Premium Plus and Premium. The Premium trim was the basic trim that offered a special liftgate for loading and Bluetooth connectivity. Whereas, the highest trim Premium Plus was offered with blind spot detection system, voice recognition and xenon headlights.
To maintain the ride quality of Q7 it was featured with AWD drivetrain with a Torsen centre differential that divides the engine torque between the rear and front tyres in a 40:60 ratio.

First Generation 4L Facelift (2009 to 2015)
The first generation Q7 was the prime example of practicality, luxury and comfort. The car was quoted to be perfect for larger families with 3 rows of seats. First-generation received a facelift in 2009 with a redesigned front fascia. The air intakes under the front grille were elongated, indicators were shifted with the headlights uni-coloured bumpers were also added.
In the interior, power front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control systems were installed. The transmission system was updated from a 6 to 8-speed automatic transmission system. However, no major changes were observed in engine ranges, a 3-litre V6 engine option was included in the range.
Second Generation 4M (2015 to 2019)
The Audi Q7 second generation debuted with lesser weight and a more efficient engine. The car was redesigned and the exterior resembled a station wagon more than an SUV. The new shape was more aerodynamic with an angled windshield. The headlights were also elongated contrary to the older one. Moreover, the front radiator grille was given a hexagonal shape that was bigger than its predecessors.
Significant upgrades were also made inside the cabin. The old instrument cluster was replaced with an Audi Virtual Cockpit and air vents were also enlarged. The infotainment screen was embedded inside the dashboard and can be popped up with a touch.
The second generation was built on a wider wheelbase that increases the cabin space. The third row of seats can be folded and the trunk can be used as a mobile tent. This time, Audi also focused on using an engine with lower fuel economy and higher performance.

Second Generation 4M Facelift (2019 to Present)
The Audi Q7 second generation receives a facelift in 2019. The hexagonal front grille was replaced with an octagonal one. Old bumpers were replaced with blade bumpers that provide it with a sportier look.
Inside the abin, an upgraded Android Auto and Apple CarPlay supported infotainment system was installed. The instrument cluster was replaced by a large 12.3 inches LCD display with an optional head-up display. The car was built on a 19 inches wheelbase which makes the car cabin more spacious.
Along with a range of internal combustion engines, a mild-hybrid engine was also offered in the facelift. The engine is capable of generating 435 hp and also supports the start-stop function.
