The Wathba cycle track stretches in the middle of the desert surrounded by a never-ending series of sand dunes and a lake. Cycling
Al Wathba cycle track is especially designed for cycling. The total length of the track is 30km which can be used by cycle enthusiasts. The track is divided into different segments for professionals (20km, 22km and 30km) and beginners (8 km and 16 km).
Along with normal cycling, the sand dunes in the surrounding area also provide an opportunity for fat biking in Abu Dhabi. However, you might need permission and proper guidance for fat biking on the sand dunes.
Outing at Wathba Lake
Other than cycling, Al Wathba is an ideal place for multiple outdoor adventures. Al Wathba lake is a man-made lake and sanctuary where you can observe a wide range of birds. The lake is surrounded by pergolas that are available on a first come first basis. You can also use these pergolas and lakeside for overnight camping.
Sightseeing
Wathba track is situated in the middle of the desert and is completely surrounded by large sand dunes. These sand dunes shine brightly when sunlight is reflected from it at the time of dawn and dusk. Hence, it is one of the best places in Abu Dhabi to watch the sunset and sunrise. Along with this, you can also witness the native wildlife of the region while cycling at the track.
Al Wathba Cycle Track Bike Rental
You can rent a bicycle from the bike rental shops in Abu Dhabi or from the rental facility at the track. The shops are operational from Sunday to Thursday between 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on Friday and Saturday, the shop is open from 06:30 am to 10:00 pm.
The aluminium or hybrid bike will cost AED 30/hour: whereas a carbon bike costs AED 60/hour. Alongside these, kid’s bicycles and bike trolleys are also available with a rent of AED 30/hour.
Al Wathba Cycle Track Opening Hours
Al Wathba cycle track is open 24 hours and you can access it anytime. The track is illuminated with solar power lights, which makes it suitable for cycling at night also. The track is open for everyone: however, the lake is restricted to families only.
Al Wathba Cycle Track Location
Al Wathba cycle track distance from the mainland Abu Dhabi is around 60 km and it took around 40 to 45 minutes to reach the track from the mainland. The track is situated near the Camel Race Track and can be reached by E22 highway/ Al AIn road.
