Abu Dhabi Toll Gate system was introduced by the Department of Transport in 2018. Like the Salik system in Dubai, it is an automatic payment system that charges toll as the vehicle passes through the gate. The Abu Dhabi Toll Gate system is also popularly known as the Darb toll gate system.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) activated Darb tolls gates on four bridges of Abu Dhabi:
- Al Maqtaa Bridge
- Musaffah Bridge
- Sheikh Zayed Bridge
- Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge
All drivers in in the capital city are required to have Abu Dhabi toll gate registration.
STEPS FOR ABU DHABI SALIK REGISTRATION
First things first, you must have an Emirates ID, an active cell phone number, an active email ID, your car’s number plate detail and your credit or debit card detail. Next, follow these steps for Abu Dhabi Salik registration:
- Visit the Darb toll website or download the app (ios app store, google play)
- Choose ‘Individual’ to create an account
- Enter a valid email address
- An OTP will be emailed, enter that one time pin
- Select the emirate where your vehicle is registered (the Emirate your car is registered in example Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain)
- Enter the traffic code number
- Enter registered mobile phone number, an OTP will be sent to that number
- Enter the OTP sent to your number
- Enter a password to complete the registration
Once you enter your password, your registration is complete. Click on ‘register’ on the dashboard and register your vehicle. Choose the payment method (either Amwal wallet or credit card) and click ‘Pay’. The initial vehicle registration fee is AED 100 per vehicle, of which AED 50 is credited in the registered account as a starting balance for your Darb toll gate account.
Please note owners of vehicles registered outside of Abu Dhabi in any other Emirate must create an account 10 days prior to crossing the Abu Dhabi Toll Gate.
Abu Dhabi Toll Gate Registration Online for Company-owned Vehicles
To register company cars and commercial vehicles with the Darb toll gate, you will need to:
- Visit the Darb toll website or download the Darb app
- Choose service type ‘Establishment’ to create an account
- Enter your valid email address
- A one time pin will be sent to that email. Enter that OTP
- Select the emirate where your vehicle is registered
- Enter the Establishment traffic code number
- Enter your registered mobile phone number, an OTP will be sent to that number
- Enter the OTP sent to your number
- Enter a password to complete the registration
- Enter the necessary information about the establishment and then click on ‘Register’
The required information can include:
- A copy of the company’s trade license (if applicable)
- A signed official letter with these details:
- Company’s stamp
- Company’s details or details of the corporate officer
- Company’s email address
- Company’s cell phone number
- TCN (traffic code number)
- A list of vehicles you wish to activate on the system with these details:
- Licence of the car number plate
- Plate code or colour
- Plate Source (DXB for Dubai, SHJ for Sharjah, AUH for Abu Dhabi, AJM for Ajman, UAQ for Umm Al Quwain, RAK for Ras Al Khaimah, FUJ for Fujairah)
- Plate category
After sending out all these details wait for the relevant authorities to get back. After successful registration, the next step is to activate your Darb tolling system account.
Abu Dhabi Salik Registration Online For Toll Gate
The authorities have made Abu Dhabi Salik registration online rather easy for the residents. To activate your Darb toll system account follow these steps:
- Login to the Darb official website
- Choose the ‘register vehicle’ button on the dashboard
- Enter the details of your vehicle
- Choose preferred payment method (Credit card/Amwal Wallet)
- Select your wallet and click ‘Pay’
- Your account will get activated after the transaction completes successfully
If you have several vehicles, repeat the process for each vehicle to register and activate your DARB Tolling Gate System account.
After you activate your DARB Abu Dhabi account, you can log in whenever you want to. The account can be used to view your fines (if any), top-up or recharge your wallet and keep a track of your transaction history.
What If an Account Was Already Created in the Past?
If you registered a Darb tolling system account previously, all you need to do is log in to the toll gate system and activate the account. Follow these steps:
- Visit the Darb toll website or download DARB mobile app from iOS App Store| Google Play
- Login using your Emirates ID or through traffic code
- Enter a valid email address, an OTP will be emailed, submit it
- Enter a valid, registered phone number and click on ‘Verify number’
- Enter the OTP sent to the number
- Enter your password and click on submit
What are Darb Toll Gate Charges
The toll fee to cross different gates differs from time to time
- During peak hours from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday, the toll fee is AED 4
- No tolls will be imposed off-peak hours
- No toll fee will be imposed during non-peak hours on Sundays and official holidays
- A maximum limit of AED 16 has been set per day per vehicle
- A monthly cap of AED 200 will be applicable on the toll of the first vehicle on your account
- A monthly cap of AED 150 will be applicable on the toll of the second vehicle on your account
- A monthly cap of AED 100 on additional vehicles
You can set the order of your vehicles on the darb toll payment portal.
Please always remember to register all your vehicles with the Darb toll system, failing to do so will result in fines. Even if you are buying used cars in Abu Dhabi, you will have to register your vehicle with the system.
Fine for Passing a Toll Gate Without Registration
A grant period of 10 days is given to motorists after their unregistered vehicles enter any Toll Gate of Abu Dhabi. However, if you do not register your vehicle within the grace period:
- You will be fined AED100 on the first day after the grace period
- You will be fined AED 200 the second day after the grace period
- You will face a fine of AED 400 on the third day
- And so on, up to AED 10,000
Who is Exempted from paying Abu Dhabi Toll?
Some people or types of vehicles are exempted from the toll payment in Abu Dhabi:
- Senior or retired Emiratis, Emiratis with limited income and people of determination
- Ambulances
- Taxis with an Abu Dhabi license
- Towed vehicles
- School buses registered in Abu Dhabi
- Public buses carrying 26 or more passengers
- Electric vehicles
- Police vehicles of the capital city
- Ministry of Interior Vehicles
