All about Tadweer Abu Dhabi
Established in 2008, Tadweer (Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre) is responsible for waste management and control activities throughout the Emirate. The management centre contributes to a healthier environment by working on a number of sustainability projects to recycle green waste and overseeing pest control activities. Moreover, this authoritative body aims to align its goal with the UAE’s objective to promote biodiversity conservation.
Let’s go through the services provided by Tadweer Abu Dhabi, its primary aim and different project details.
A STEP TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY
To diversify its energy and utilities portfolio, one of the biggest holding companies in Abu Dhabi, ADQ, added Tadweer to expand its assets. This addition’s primary objective is to promote a circular economy for a sustainable future in the UAE.
That said, Tadweer aims to develop an integrated waste management system for a healthy and safe environment for the citizens of Abu Dhabi. It has set up 26 treatment facilities and has 808 environmental service providers (ESPs) for the proper handling of waste. In addition to this, the centre is operating with 812 licensed companies and 4,315 licensed vehicles.
There are several campaigns run by Tadweer for waste recycling and reduction. The organisation has also arranged workshops and inception tours on effective waste disposal. A campaign called “Al Dhafra Deserves” is a prime example of Tadweer’s efforts to promote waste management practices.
SERVICES PROVIDED BY TADWEER ABU DHABI
Tadweer waste management provides a range of services to Abu Dhabi citizens. From supplier registration to public awareness services, the centre caters to all the requirements.
Let’s have a look at the services offered by Tadweer.
BOLISATY
Tadweer bolisaty is an E-Manifest system introduced to develop an integrated waste management system. It includes waste producers, environmental service providers, treatment facilities and final waste disposal sites. Digitalisation makes it easier for all parties to have access to the entire process.
The e-platform provides access to the transporters to navigate different waste collection points. The waste is weighed for each type to reduce the production volume. It is then transported to the receiving facility. The data of both parties are recorded and reported to increase workflow efficiency.
ABER
Aber is an E-coupon system introduced by Tadweer Abu Dhabi. It allows the vehicles carrying waste to enter the facilities with a digital Aber card instead of a paper coupon. The card can be recharged electronically at all times and can be issued through a Customer Service agent.
PEST CONTROL
Tadweer introduced an e-contract for public health pest control to protect the residents from epidemics and diseases. It also helps to enhance tourism, medical, industrial and commercial facilities in the Emirate. Tadweer pest control has different operations underway to limit the spread of insects that cause food contamination and misuse of pesticides.
WASTE REDUCTION
Companies that produce more than 250 tonnes of waste per year are required to submit a waste reduction report to Tadweer. The report ensures that all the entities play their role effectively to achieve a healthy environment. Every submission must include the following sections:
- Waste Reduction Action Plan
- Contract with ESPs approved by Centre of Waste Management (CWM) in Abu Dhabi
- Manifestation System
Moreover, small sorting solutions called waste mines are also located throughout Abu Dhabi. They have been placed for the public to separate and sort recyclable waste such as plastics, metal cans and electronic devices.
E-AUCTIONS
The e-auctions promote recycling where the residents can put up the objects for sale instead of discarding them. The objects will then be sold to the bidding recycling business. This creates an economic activity with a positive impact.
WASTE REMOVAL FROM RESIDENTIAL AREAS
The service ensures the collection and disposal of agricultural waste from the residential areas of Abu Dhabi. The residents can dispose of their home garden waste, household furniture, electrical appliances and any other non-hazardous materials. Following are the details of the service:
