Some things can be an absolute treat for the eyes under certain circumstances; like a hot cup of coffee on a cold evening or a cold beverage on a warm night. If you reside in the UAE, eye-catching sights should be normal for you as the country hosts some of the most monumental structures in the world. But you might also be used to the heat in the UAE as the sun tends to shine with all its glory and the country experiences humid temperatures for the better part of the year. On a hot day, there isn’t a better sight than a swimming pool and the only thing that can beat the feeling is to have one at your place.
Swimming pools are pretty much a common sight in the UAE considering the climatic conditions. People also prefer pools as luxury items for their home decorations. But having a swimming pool is one thing and swimming pool maintenance is a different thing altogether. You need to maintain your swimming pool well enough to make full use of it and ensure its longevity. We have compiled a swimming pool maintenance checklist to help you with pool care. Let’s dive into the details.
Swimming Pool Maintenance Checklist
Everything goes through a normal process of wear and tear with time. However, poor maintenance can pace up the process and you can end up bearing an expense that could have been avoided by simply looking after the things. Swimming pool maintenance is an important part of having a pool. The pool equipment maintenance aside, a dirty pool can pose a threat to the health of the people that bathe in it. For pool equipment, you can easily find swimming pool supply stores in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other cities in the Emirates. Furthermore, there are some easy steps and a checklist that you can follow to ensure a safe and secure swimming experience for your family. Following is an easy to follow pool maintenance schedule checklist divided into 4 portions for your convenience.
DAILY POOL MAINTENANCE
There are different property types in the UAE that can be ideal for a swimming pool. For swimming pool maintenance, consistency is the key and you can carry out the following daily checks to keep your pool in top-notch condition.
CHECK WATER LEVEL
You need to make sure that water is at the optimal level. If it is above the optimal level the skimmers might stop skimming. If the water level is below the level, skimmers can stop functioning as they will be sucking in the air. Rain can increase water levels if your pool does not have a rainproof shed. Inspect the water levels thoroughly during the rainy season.
CHECK PUMP AND FILTER
Go through the filter pressure gauge as it can tell if the water flow is normal from the filter. Any excess or lower flow can be a sign of trouble and needs to be fixed. Typically high pressure indicates a dirty filter while the low pressure is because of full baskets. If that’s the case then you can empty the baskets.
COVER THE POOL
You can avoid most of the skimming by simply covering the pool during the night or when it is not in use. The covers can stop the leaves, insects, and debris from falling into the pool.
WEEKLY POOL MAINTENANCE
While villas may sound like the perfect place to have a pool there are several rental apartments in the UAE with built-in pools you can choose from. For weekly swimming pool maintenance, you can carry out the following tasks:
CHECK THE CHEMICAL LEVELS
From a health perspective, checking the PH and chlorine levels is an essential part of swimming pool maintenance. You can find all the necessary equipment in the pool maintenance kit. The ideal PH scale is 7.5 but anything between 7.4 to 7.8 would work. The chlorine level should be around 2 to 4 PPM.
ADDING THE CHEMICALS
For ideal PH levels, sanitisation, and alkalinity, you can add chemicals. Chemicals can also help prevent staining.
CLEAN THE POOL DECK
The pool deck can get messy with leaves, insects, and debris around it. You can use a blower to easily get rid of unwanted things. Furthermore, there are many pest control companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other cities of the Emirates that you can hire if the pest situation has gotten worse.
ADDITIONAL WEEKLY TASKS
You should also carry out the following weekly tasks for better swimming pool maintenance:
- Shocking (process of adding chemical to raise free chlorine level) the pool when necessary
- Scrubbing the tile lines to eliminate scum
- Checking, cleaning and replacing the filters if necessary
- Emptying the pump basket if necessary
MONTHLY POOL MAINTENANCE
There are a few monthly checks that you can do for ensuring the below and above ground level pool maintenance. The tasks are listed below:
TEST SALT LEVELS
For a saltwater pool, it is necessary to carry out the salt level test. You can carry out the tests yourself or hire professional services. You can easily take the water sample and get it analysed for metals, cyanuric acid, dissolved metals, and other substances.
CHECK CALCIUM AND CYA LEVELS
Usually, the calcium and cyanuric acid levels remain stable. That said, it is better to be safe than sorry by keeping a check required levels every month. The ideal calcium hardness should be around 200-400 PPM while the cyanuric acid should be 40-80 PPM.
YEARLY POOL MAINTENANCE
If you live in a rental villa compound in the UAE with a built-in pool you should be aware of the importance of pool care. Apart from the daily, weekly and monthly tasks, there are some yearly checks that you should do for effective swimming pool maintenance.
CLEAN SLIDE SURFACES
If the pool is in frequent use it will require more cleaning. Commercial pool maintenance can be hectic because of daily and heavy usage. However, for your yearly swimming pool maintenance, you can clean the slide and diving boards once or twice a year. Use approved cleansers and avoid dropping any of them in the pool.
CHECK AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS
Safety should be the priority for your pool. The diving board or the ladder screws can get loose with time and usage. It is advised to check and tighten them for a safer diving experience.
DEEP CLEAN THE FILTERS
The filters should be thoroughly cleaned at least once a year. This should be done by removing them and using authentic cleaners to get rid of any dirt. If the filters seem out of shape, you should replace them.
CLEAN ALL EQUIPMENT
Pool equipment maintenance is also an essential part of swimming pool maintenance. You don’t want to be cleaning your pool with dirty equipment. Gather all the pool equipment in one place and clean them thoroughly. If any of the equipment is out of shape and isn’t doing its job correctly, it is time to get the new ones.
This brings us to the end of the swimming pool maintenance checklist. Pools can be the ideal retreat from a hectic day at work or on a hot sunny day. Especially for people in the UAE, pools can be a blessing as the soaring temperatures in the country can get the better of many people. Get your pool maintenance right and beat the heat. Additionally, you can select from a variety of home cleaning apps in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other cities of the Emirates and hire them for professional pool cleaning and other services.
