Ajman Sewerage Collection Network
Alongside offering services to tenants and landlords, Ajman Sewerage plays a vital role in managing wastewater across the emirate. Its extensive network ensures safe collection, transfer and treatment, supporting both sustainability and community wellbeing.
Pipeline Network
The system spans over 300 km of pipelines designed on the gravity sewer principle. Wastewater from approximately 120,000 properties is channelled into 21 basins before being pumped through pipelines to the central treatment plant.
Operating throughout the year, the network is supported by strict monitoring and maintenance schedules to ensure seamless service.
Septic Tank Collection
Similar to Sewerage water withdrawal in Dubai, Ajman also offers septic tank services for properties not connected to the network. For such properties, licensed third-party companies manage wastewater collection through tankers. The collected water is discharged at designated facilities, maintaining hygiene standards while supporting the emirate’s sustainability goals.

Ajman Sewerage System Treatment Plant
With green real estate in the UAE gaining momentum, sustainable infrastructure is also advancing to support eco-friendly urban living. A crucial element of this progress is wastewater treatment, and Ajman is at the forefront with its advanced three-stage treatment plant that ensures maximum sustainability in the emirate.
Pre-Treatment
The pre-treatment stage focuses on removing solid materials from the wastewater. Objects larger than 6 mm are filtered out first, after which the water passes through a series of fine screens that capture particles as small as 0.2 mm in diameter. This process ensures cleaner water enters the next stage of treatment.
Primary Treatment
In the primary stage, wastewater passes through eight Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors, where anaerobic microorganisms break down organic matter. This process removes up to 75% of organic content while generating sludge and biogas.
The gas is safely extracted and burned, while excess sludge is dewatered using centrifuges before being collected and disposed of

Secondary Treatment
The partially treated water flows into pre-aeration tanks where air is introduced to remove hydrogen sulphide. After that, the oxygen diffusers at the base of eight tanks supply air, stimulating microorganisms that break down the remaining biological matter.
The water is then directed to four clarifiers, where rotating skimmers separate sludge from the liquid. The collected sludge is dewatered using belt filters and presses before safe disposal.
Tertiary Treatment
In the final stage, the partially treated water passes through 10 Deep Bed Filters (DBF), where sand layers trap solids and bacteria, allowing only clean water to flow through. The filtered water is directed to two chlorination tanks for disinfection, ensuring it meets the required quality standards.
