Over three decades, GMC Yukon’s history has gone through evolution to offer better technology and features. Every GMC Yukon generation has formed an equilibrium of power, capability, and luxurious features. That said, Yukon models can be distinguished from engineering excellence and premium craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GMC Yukon Generations and Models<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Offering an exclusive off-roading<\/a> experience and highway cruising, the first generation of the GMC Yukon model rolled out in 1991. It has been 30 years of excellent drive quality and symbolic full-size SUV since the Yukon\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Generation GMC Yukon (1991-1999)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From 1995 onwards, the four-door Yukon debuted with more safety and luxury features<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A premium and full-size SUV by the famous American auto brand<\/a> made its way in 1991. The first generation of the GMC Yukon debuted in 1991 as a twin model to the Chevrolet K5 Blazer. Besides, it was an iconic two-door SUV featuring the latest technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This premium SUV featured a 5.7-litre V8 engine<\/a> producing 210 horsepower and 407 N-m torque. The engine was paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Besides, it offered standard rear-wheel drive and optional four-wheel drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first upgrade in 1995 introduced the four-door GMC Yukon and was related to the Chevrolet Tahoe. However, the GMC Yukon had more wheelbase and overall length than the other full-size SUVs available at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the horsepower was increased to 265 hp after the 1995 upgrade. Besides, more comfort and safety features were introduced. For instance, the Yukon featured dual airbags, heated front seats, rear AC vents and an improved electric power steering system<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-door SUV was discontinued from the Yukon models lineup in 1997. In 1998, the upscale Denali trim was introduced in the GMC Yukon\u2019s history. Featuring chrome wheels, a wood trim interior and other luxury car features<\/a>, the GMC Yukon had a slight edge over its twin model, Chevrolet Tahoe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Generation GMC Yukon (2000-2006)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2000, the second generation of the GMC Yukon rolled out with a new chassis and third-row seating option. Besides, GMC offered Yukon XL with more wheelbase<\/a> than the standard Yukon model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second generation of GMC Yukon featured 4.8 and 5.3-litre engines producing 270 and 285 hp, respectively. Additionally, GMC launched Yukon Denali in 2001 equipped with a 6.0-litre V8 engine with 325 hp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the Yukon model featured GM\u2019s OnStar automotive telematics system<\/a>. Alongside, the front-seat side airbags, automatic headlight<\/a>, sunroof and Autoride suspension system were included. In the later GMC Yukon models, more features such as stability control, tire pressure monitoring system<\/a>, and GPS navigation system were added for the first time in the history of GMC Yukon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides, the GMC Yukon Denali featured a distinctive exterior with two-tone body cladding and more chrome accent. Its front fascia included a billet chrome grille that distinguished the Denali model from the standard ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third generation of GMC Yukon debuted in 2007 with subtle and comprehensive design changes. It was for the first time in GMC Yukon\u2019s history that it included the front ends and taillights from its twin model i.e. Chevrolet Tahoe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engine lineup included 4.8 and 5.3-litre V8 engines producing 295 and 320 hp. Whereas, the Denali model featured 6.2-litre V8 engines generating 380 hp. All engines were paired with the 4-speed automatic transmission<\/a>. However, the six-speed automatic transmission replaced the 4-speed one to improve fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This GMC Yukon generation boasted an aerodynamic exterior and new technology i.e. cylinder deactivation to improve fuel economy. Besides, a hybrid version was introduced in 2008 due to escalating fuel prices and economic recession. The hybrid car<\/a> model featured a 6.0-litre V8 engine with two electric motors to generate 379 hp. The hybrid model lasted only one year and was discontinued after 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upscale Denali trim featured more chrome on the exterior than the previous generation. Besides, the following safety systems were made standard on all the Yukon models:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
