Every driver wants their car’s engine to be as powerful as it can. To measure the amount of power in the engine, mechanics perform a dyno test. The device used for the dyno tests to measure the force, torque or power in your vehicle is known as dynamometer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Is Dyno Testing Done?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before starting the dyno test, it is important to make sure that the dyno test machine is not out of calibration because wear and tear and corrosion impacts dynamometer’s calibration. If that is the case, a calibration arm is installed in the dynamometer to recalibrate the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two main kinds of dynamometers: power absorption dynamometer and power transmission dynamometer. Power absorption dynamometer measures an engine’s torque or power in a process in which the energy given by the engine is absorbed by the dyno test motor. In a power transmission<\/a> dynamometer, on the other hand, the power is transferred to the load connected to the engine<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To perform the dyno test, mechanic places the drive wheels on a loaded drum. Followed by this, the mechanic depresses the accelerator to rotate the drive wheels (and drums) for measurement. Most dynamometer tests are actually quite short, lasting no more than two minutes. Of course, set-up time must be factored in.  All in all, an experienced mechanic can complete the dyno test in 30 minutes or less. It is important that only a qualified mechanic performs the dyno test on your car, as there is a risk of the car falling off the dyno test stand and dyno test can go wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
