Four-Wheel, also called 4X4 or 4WD, is a type of drivetrain capable of delivering torque to all four wheels at the same time. In simpler words, all four wheels are provided with equal amounts of energy to rotate simultaneously. The car contains a typical drivetrain and is heavy in weight due to additional elements on it. Typically, these cars are considered only for off-roading. However, new variations in the drive can be used on streets also. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is 4WD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Four-wheel drive vehicles can provide equal amounts of torque to all its tyres simultaneously. A transfer case is present between the rear and front axle to distribute torque, it can also control the amount and timing of torque provision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This transfer case is connected to an outer shaft or gear transmission which can make it part-time or full-time four wheel drive. These vehicles are often confused with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), but there is a clear difference between AWD and 4WD.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Permanent (Full-Time) 4WD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Part-Time 4WD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The part-time 4WD provides option of 2 wheel-drive or 4 wheel-drive. The car is equipped with both the systems, and it is upon the driver\u2019s choice to choose between the systems. An additional gear transmission or switch is required to shift from 2WD to 4Wd and vice versa. It comes with a lock between the rear and front axle which makes it suitable for slippery surfaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Automatic 4WD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Automatic 4WDs are 2WDs by default but it can transit from 2 to 4 wheel-drive. It contains a latest system that can detract the driving conditions and automatically shift the torque to the wheels.
