It has evolved from a rugged yet upscale vehicle into a modern flagship equipped with cutting-edge technology, robust performance and sophisticated styling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the Lincoln Navigator history and its generations through the decades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lincoln-navigator-first-generation-1998-2003\">LINCOLN NAVIGATOR FIRST GENERATION (1998-2003)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first generation of the Navigator was rolled out in 1997 for the 1998 model year. The full-size SUV shared some features with the Ford F-150 and Expedition models.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its front fascia featured a cascade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/car-grilles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">car grille<\/a> with vertical chromed slats and round fog lights. There were tall headlights with blinkers mounted on the corners. The Navigator had flared wheel arches, chrome door handles and side steps for easy access. It came fitted with leather bucket seats, a seven-speaker stereo with a six-disc CD changer. The car also had a tilt steering wheel and cruise control. The interior offered seating for up to eight passengers with a three-row configuration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1998 Lincoln Navigator came with a 5.4-litre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/v8-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">V8 engine<\/a>, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It delivered up to 230 hp. In 2000, Lincoln upgraded it to a more powerful 5.4-litre V8 with a double-overhead cam design. This engine could generate up to 305 hp. Moreover, buyers could choose between rear-wheel drive or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/awd-in-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all-wheel drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lincoln-navigator-second-generation-2003-2006\">LINCOLN NAVIGATOR SECOND GENERATION (2003-2006)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The second generation of the Lincoln Navigator history was unveiled in 2003. It was offered in three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/car-trim-levels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trim levels<\/a>: Luxury, Premium and Ultimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2003 Navigator featured a body-coloured front bumper and round fog lamps. The SUV\u2019s rugged appearance was further enhanced by 17-inch alloy wheels and 18-inch optional wheels. The rear of the SUV featured rectangular taillights and a plastic bumper concealing the towing hook.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2003 Navigator received major interior upgrades compared to the first generation. It had a rectangular instrument cluster featuring four main dials, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/car-speedometer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">speedometer<\/a>, tachometer, fuel and temperature gauges. The SUV offered three rows of leather seats, an overhead console with a DVD player, lights and storage, plus the option of a rear bench or captain\u2019s chairs. The third row provided good space and could be folded flat at the push of a button, making it easy to switch between carrying passengers and cargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second-generation Navigator drew power from a 5.4-litre V8 engine producing 300 hp. It was paired with a four-speed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/automatic-transmission-types-pros-cons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">automatic transmission<\/a>. Later on, Lincoln upgraded it to a six-speed automatic for better performance and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lincoln-navigator-third-generation-2006-2018\">LINCOLN NAVIGATOR THIRD GENERATION (2006-2018)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The next generation of the Lincoln Navigator model history came out in 2006. Available in standard or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/long-wheelbase-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-wheelbase<\/a> versions (the Navigator L), it came with flared wheel arches, 18-inch alloy wheels (20-inch optional) and standard running boards. The longer version offered bigger rear doors, larger windows and more cargo space. At the back, it retained the convenient power-operated tailgate, a signature feature since the first generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Navigator offered seating for up to eight people, with the option of second-row captain\u2019s chairs that included a console with a table and fridge. The Lincoln Navigator interior features include leather bucket seats and a dashboard with wood trims and an analogue clock. Its instrument panel had large gauges for key functions, while the centre stack included a premium THX II audio system with MP3 support and a six-disc CD changer. A DVD-based navigation system with a colour touchscreen was also available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third-generation Navigator featured a 5.4-litre V8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It was available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, with power outputs of either 300 hp or 310 hp, depending on the version.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lincoln-navigator-third-generation-facelift-2015\">LINCOLN NAVIGATOR THIRD GENERATION FACELIFT (2015)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The first facelift came into the Lincoln Navigator history in the 2015 model year. Though it shared body panels with its predecessor, it was refreshed with 22-inch alloy wheels and retractable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/running-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">running boards<\/a>. It also had extensive LED use, 222 in total, mainly on the taillights, giving the SUV a modern, more luxurious appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2015 Navigator featured a new leather-wrapped steering wheel with hand stitching and spacious front seats separated by a wide centre console. It offered seating for seven or eight, with the second row available as captain\u2019s chairs with a console, a pass-through, or a bench. The third row had a split-folding bench seat that provided good legroom and headroom for passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the hood, the refreshed version of the Navigator featured a 3.5-litre, twin-turbo EcoBoost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/v6-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">V6 engine<\/a>. It had a six-speed automatic transmission, producing 370 hp. Moreover, it was available in both 4&#215;2 and 4&#215;4 versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lincoln-navigator-fourth-generation-2018-present\">LINCOLN NAVIGATOR FOURTH GENERATION (2018-PRESENT)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The fourth and current generation of the Navigator rolled out in 2018. The present models have a bold design with updated headlights, taillights and a signature illuminated grille. Lincoln also offers a split tailgate, power-deployable running boards and a panoramic Vista Roof with a power sunshade.
