How to conduct the motor winding resistance test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Checking the motor winding resistance is a straightforward process. You need a digital multimeter to do that. Follow the steps given below: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: <\/strong>Switch on the digital multimeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: <\/strong>Set the multimeter to resistance. Look for the capital Greek letter, Omega to locate the resistance setting. Omega is the symbol of the unit of resistance, ohm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: <\/strong>Touch the positive (red) lead of the multimeter to the positive end of the winding wire on the motor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have read the multimeter, check the readings against the 3-phase motor winding resistance chart provided by the manufacturer. Compare the winding resistance test readings between the three phases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The typical deviation for the three average winding readings should be between 1 to 3%. In case there are vast differences between the three readings, there could be a problem with the motor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
