This arrangement is common in many trucks, performance cars and traditional body-on-frame vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-all-wheel-drive-awd\"><strong>All-wheel drive (AWD)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>All-wheel-drive vehicles use a combination of front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive systems to power all four wheels. The arrangement of the drive shafts can vary depending on the specific AWD system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When the vehicle operates in front-wheel drive mode, power is sent to the rear wheels when additional traction is needed.
