These vehicles use various technologies such as sensors, cameras, radar and lidar to perceive their surroundings. It encompasses a single support feature that assists drivers in braking, driving and steering the car in specific scenarios. For instance, Adaptive Cruise Control is a sound example of Level 1 since that helps maintain a safe distance from the car in front by adjusting the speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, at Level 1 of autonomous driving, vehicles have some basic automated assistance features. However, human drivers are still primarily in control.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-level-2-partial-driving-automation\">Level 2 &#8211; Partial Driving Automation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This level is among the autonomous driving stages where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/advanced-driver-assistance-system-adas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ADAS systems<\/a> come into play. Even though level 2 takes over steering, braking and other aspects of driving, the driver must still stay active and take control of the vehicle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of Level 2 autonomous driving systems include the following names:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/tesla-autopilot-working-features\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot<\/a><\/li><li>Audi&#8217;s Traffic Jam Assist<\/li><li>Ford BlueCruise<\/li><li>GMC Super Cruise<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/kia-highway-driving-assist-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kia Highway Driving Assist 2<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other level 2 examples include Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. ACC with LCA maintains distance and lane position, while Traffic Jam Assist manages stop-and-go traffic by controlling acceleration and braking. Besides, these features exemplify Level 2 automation, requiring driver supervision but offering assistance in diverse driving conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-level-3-conditional-driving-automation\">Level 3 &#8211; Conditional Driving Automation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Level 3 of autonomous driving is one step closer to self-driving cars by introducing Conditional Driving Automation. In this stage, the vehicle can take full control under specific conditions, like highway driving with clear markings and good weather. While the car drives, the driver may divert your attention within limits set by the manufacturer but must remain alert to take over if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Level 3 vehicles feature advanced sensor technology, including cameras, radar and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/lidar-autonomous-driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LiDAR technology<\/a>, to perceive surroundings. Additionally, powerful onboard computers process this data for driving decisions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Audi ventured into the levels of autonomous driving with its Level 3 Traffic Jam Pilot system for the A8 model. This system aimed to handle driving in slow-moving traffic, allowing drivers to momentarily divert attention from the road. It even released the steering wheel at speeds up to 60 km\/h. However, Audi encountered challenges that led to the withdrawal of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another renowned example of Level 3 technology is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/mercedes-drive-pilot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mercedes Benz Drive Pilot<\/a> feature. At this level, cars can manage all driving aspects within a specific operational design domain (ODD), such as a designated city area or highway segment. They don\u2019t require constant human oversight. Besides, passengers are free from the need to monitor the environment or intervene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These vehicles rely on a technology stack, including different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubizzle.com\/blog\/cars\/types-sensors-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">types of car sensors<\/a>, LiDAR and high-resolution maps to navigate surroundings within the predefined ODD. While Level 4 technology has the potential to transform transportation, it&#8217;s still in development, with limited availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-level-5-full-driving-automation\">Level 5 &#8211; Full Driving Automation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This autonomous driving level represents the ultimate goal of self-driving cars. At this stage, cars can operate without any human input or supervision in any driving condition. Moreover, they aim to provide passengers with complete autonomy, allowing them to relax and enjoy the ride while the vehicle handles all driving tasks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, despite the promising vision, achieving Level 5 automation faces many challenges.
