DIY Windshield Washer Reservoir Replacement

Replacing Windshield Washer Reservoir
Windshield washer reservoir replacement is difficult as it is located beneath the battery in most cars. Therefore, the process of replacing the reservoir is divided into two different parts. First one is to dismantle it from the engine and second is to remove it from the wheel side. The replacement may require initial level expertise and multiple tools. Tools Required
Necessary tools required to replace windshield water reservoir are as follows:
- Flashlight
- Flat Blade Screwdriver
- Protective Gloves
- 8mm Wrench
- Pilers
- 10-13mm socket and ratchet
- New windshield washer reservoir
Removing from the Engine Side
The first step is to remove the reservoir from the engine. Before starting the process, you have to remove the car battery. Once you have removed the battery, two bolts holding an iron sheet are visible, for further process see the following steps:
Step 1: Loose the bolt by using a ratchet and remove the sheet.
Step 2: The water reservoir is visible now. Detach harness plug or clamp attached with it.
Step 3: Slightly pull the reservoir upward and follow the second part.
Removing from the Lower Fender
In the second part, you have to unscrew the reservoir from the lower fender.
Step 4: Lift the vehicle slightly upward using the wheel jack. This step is only recommended if you are having difficulty in reaching the lower fender.
Step 5: Plug out the stoppers (clips) using pliers and remove the fender sheet.
Step 6: Remove the screw holding the water reservoir with the car base.
Step 7: Remove any other sensor, wiring or spring attached to the reservoir.
Step 8: Pull the reservoir outwards, and remove it.
Step 9: Now place the new water reservoir bottle and tight all the screws.
Step 10: Put back the fender sheet and battery removed earlier.
Step 11: Add new coolant and optimum level water in the reservoir.
Common Symptoms of Windshield Water Reservoir Leaking
Windshield water reservoirs are prone to multiple external factors that can leak it. Its leakage is often confused with radiator water leakage, as both flush out coolant from the car. Here are some common symptoms to identify the water reservoir leakage.
- Visible stains of coolant or water on the floor.
- Water is not being sprayed on the windshield.
- The windshield fluid pressure is low.
- Visible cracks on the reservoir.
