How Audi Holoride Feature Works
A sensor-equipped VR headset is connected to the vehicle. Bluetooth enables the headset to connect with the vehicle wirelessly. The VR glasses are linked to the vehicle’s data bus system which receives information like the car’s speed or braking from the car’s suspension control unit. This information is then transmitted to the virtual world.
The Holoride feature can only be used by the backseat passengers. However, higher levels of automation in future will allow drivers to enjoy these kinds of entertainment features while driving. Drivers would no longer have to concentrate on driving and can read, watch movies or even play games.
Elastic Content in Audi Cars
The holoride system in Audi provides elastic content: a new type of media intended specifically for use in vehicles, with information that adapts to driving time, speed, and environment. Everything that happens to the car in the actual world happens in your virtual environment, so the physical sensation completely matches the graphics. For example, if the car makes a right turn, the spaceship will also fly to the right. When your car accelerates, so does the spaceship.
A film on your iPad may be longer or shorter than your actual journey, but Holoride’s experiences will automatically sync with the length of a route specified in the car’s navigational systems. This is technologically practicable because of high-precision localization techniques in the field of autonomous driving.
Audi Models With Holoride Feature
The VR headset will work as long as your car is equipped with MIB 3 – Audi’s modern infotainment system. This means that Audi models in which holoride is compatible are Audi A4, Audi A5, Audi A6, Audi A7, Audi A8, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi Q8, and Audi e-tron
Holoride will first be available in the United States and Europe (beginning with Germany and the United Kingdom). Other European countries would be included in 2023, and Audi AG has stated that it will expand into Asian markets in the future.
