Manga Sushi

If nothing else, this place is unique. Manga isn't just the name, but the theme of this place. For those not familiar with Manga, it's the Japanese style of comic strips that have taken the country (Japan) by storm in the form of graphic novels, Japanimation cartoons and full length movies.

The entire interior of the venue looks like a scene straight out of one of these comic strips, as do the wait staff with their school-girl like outfits, bright colored make up, and wild, multi-colored hairdos. There are various TV screens embedded in the walls playing silent manga films, every shelf is adorned with manga figurines, and they have libraries of manga novels scattered amongst the shelves throughout the restaurant. Even the menu has some strange nonsensical manga cartoon that runs throughout it.

When we entered we were circled through the restaurant before being seated, and went through a gauntlet of manga girls who chanted "Konichiwa, welcome to manga sushi" in a continuous chorus. The menu was better than average and priced fairly. They had the typical selection of the basics, and a handful of creative signature rolls (reminded me a bit of the menu at Momatarro). I had the tempura udon, which I wasn't crazy about, but I think that was just my preference rather than the quality of the dish. The gyoza appetizer was quite good, as was the sashimi and the rolls that my colleagues ordered. One colleague got a dish of salmon sashimi encrusted in sesame seeds which was amazing. Also, the bottomless iced tea was great. Really good iced tea, and as I said...bottomless. Beyond that, I would say that the service was quite good as well. What they lacked in experience/intuition they made up for with exuberant attentiveness.

All in all I have to give this place an A+ for breaking the mold of typical dubai restaurants. In terms of food I would rate it just below Sumo and Momatarro in terms of selection and value for money. Though I think the quality of the food is pretty much on par. I would encourage anyone reading this to give the place a try for a little taste of something different.

I Like QD's, It is a perfect place for this time of year.
Sitting outside by the water is the greatest feeling ever, it is really flexible for large groups of people.
The food is great, And the Shisha is better.
The service is ok, BUT the only bad thing about the place is going to the bathroom, you have to take a card with a number on it, WHY?
I like the music there. It is just the right amount. you dont have to scream to be heard.
It is an affordable place to go chill out with your friends.

Sumo Sushi in Garhoud
Been to the other outlets & the food was great but when it comes to service in Garhoud..?// Make sure you shout a bit
out of normal to be served,- we went in & waited for roughly 20 mins & the servers seemed to be very busy/ or maybe pretending to be busy? ( it was only 6.30pm & few tables occupied with few people ).-# we had to give them a begging face to get their attention but.?#$%@ apparently everybody were only serving the other table ( happened to be Brits.)
Not trying to be racist but really...?> Sad to say that these Asian servers needs to be trained to treat each guest equal! I am an Asian/ work in hospitality & so greatful that I treat everybody the same.
We walked out from retaurant & went to Irish Village instead where not quite suprisingly being served with Brits with FULL hospitality where they treat everyone the same!!!

Before Da Shi Dai, it was difficult to find a restaurant in Dubai that serves good dim sum or yum cha as some would call it.

Although it is not primarily a yum cha venue, one can't fault its dim sum selection. My husband and I only go there for that purpose; to savour the delicious Cha siu bao (Steamed chicken bun), har kao (prawn dumplings) and scallop siew mai. The other usual suspects which we never fail to order are fried turnip cakes, crunch prawn cheong fun, crispy yam floss dumplings, tofu skin oyster, shrimp and mushroom rolls and for dessert, the creamy egg custard in puff pastry shells.

We frequent the Mirdif branch as the staff are much friendlier and more efficient and we rarely get the "it's not available" response. The restaurant's contemporary design is bright and charming.Parking is also easy and if you go early (it opens at noon) you don't have to worry about not being able to get a table.

Expect to pay about Dhs 80 per person but definitely well worth it. We always bring visitors there and they are always very satisfied.

Zuma is definitely my new favorite Japanese restaurant/bar...or would that be my favorite new rest/bar?
Anyway, the crowd's great - not as corporate as one might think being in the DIFC.
Food - Excellent
Music - Superb
Ambiance - Fantastic
Decor - Minimal in the best, most cozy way possible
Drinks - Delicious
Service - On it
Valet - yes

If you want to book a table upstairs in the lounge (recommended), you'd need to do so 2 weeks in advance. The best part, there's none of that "gotta order a bottle of God-knows-what" thing to get a table.

Enjoy it - oh, and if you're into shrooms, then go for the mushroom skewers.
YUMMY!
